In this question, for the sake of simplicity, netbooks are classified as laptops.

I have a desktop. I'd love a laptop but it's not in the budget right now.

i've got a laptop.
11 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 10/18/10 - 4:27:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
I have a desktop machine that I use for my primary home theater, for storage and for light gaming.

I have a netbook for portability, where I don't really need the power i have on my home computer.

All in all, it's cost me about $1300 for both computers (approximately: $250 quad-core CPU, $200 mobo, $100 1 GB DDR5 graphics, $200 8GB RAM, $100 case (including fans), $20 DVD-RW drive, $40 wireless keyboard/mouse, $70 5.1 speakers, $40 sound card, $150 1.5 TB HDD, $380 12.1" netbook), which is comparable to what many would spend for a single laptop with less power and less portability than I get with my two devices.

@skine: While I don't have a desktop, I think along the same lines. I have a pretty heavy duty laptop as my main machine, and use a small tabletPC for portability. Two machines, different uses.

My main computer is a desktop, but I have a netbook. I also have my friend's old mac that I use for the lols.

My desktop is heavy duty, and I really only use my netbook when I travel.

sexy desktop
11 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 10/18/10 - 7:32:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
A desktop. I have no interest in ever owning a laptop (am dreading the possibility of desktops not being made anymore at some point in the future).

I don't find laptops comfortable to use at all. I much prefer a separate keyboard so I can be a good distance away from the computer screen.
I also have no need for portability. I only use the internet at home; it's no issue for me to use it only in one spot.

I have both, a netbook which I have been using for everything since I do not currently have internet at my house, and my magnificent (unused) desktop that I use for...well, hardcore gaming.

I have a desktop.

@DeeDee17: There's really no worry about desktops going away in the near future. Not only are they demanded by gamers, content creators (eg video, music and imaging), enthusiasts and hobbyists, but also (I think) we'll see a bigger demand in the near future for set-top boxes and HTPCs.

Both, I used laptops all through college and still use the one I've had since junior year (2008). After graduation I decided to build a desktop.

Laptop specs: Windows Vista, 15.4" screen, 200 GB Hard Drive, 3GB RAM, dual core 2 GHz processor.

Desktop specs: Windows 7, two 19" monitors, 1TB Hard Drive, 4GB RAM, 6-core 2.8 GHz processor, decent graphics card, fans on case change colors. I only use 4GB of RAM because I use a 32-bit OS, got it from my school fro $10 before I graduated.

I'm also considering getting a netbook soon, because I don't need my laptop for power anymore since I have the desktop but still use it for surfing the internet and when I travel.

Laptop. The only reason I use a desktop is because they tend to be attached to a printer, and I havent cared enough to figure out how to print things directly from my laptop yet.

I have had a laptop for the last few years and i don't think i could go back to having a desktop.
11 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 10/20/10 - 11:39:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
One of each. There are others scattered around the house as well.
11 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Thursday 10/21/10 - 2:09:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've been using laptops for the past three or so years and I find them so much better and more convenient than desktops. There's a twelve-year-old desktop in the corner, but no one uses that anymore and it's only in the house because no one's bothered to get rid of it yet.
