If I'm driving a boat, I suppose I do- - the time zone changes between one side of Lake Michigan and the other...

No but close. I'm about an hour and a half drive from the Pacific time zone.

Greenwich Mean Time zone to the west would start with the Belgian Channel coast which is about 650 km and a good 7 hour drive away. To the east it'd probably be more than 1100 km and 12 hours to Romania or somewhere in that area.

I am 45 minutes from the border of the time Zone but then it takes about an hour to load onto the train and get through the tunnel.
France being one hour ahead the the UK is very strange when you are in Brittany and the sun doesn't set until close to 11 pm.

Yes, from northwest Indiana I can head either south or northeast and be in the eastern time zone with in 30-40 minutes.

God, no. I'm in New York and it would take at least a good nine hours to get to Illinois. Or certain parts of Indiana. Even a flight would probably take more than an hour.
