Christopher Hitchens's (to name one person) atheism is a religion. Most atheists' atheism, on the other hand, is not a religion.

I don't get it. Collecting stamps is a hobby whether atheism is a religion or not.

Haha. I did the same thing.

The brain goes on vacation sometimes.

(Or is this more like an optical illusion? Brain skips words and reads what it assumes should be there logically?)

Suddenly I have a feeling not eating is gluttony.

If I keep a journal of everything I don't write down, do I get it?

Question doesn't work logically. Atheism is a set way of thinking about things. Its not the absence of thought, though I'm sure someone could make a joke about that.
10 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 2/7/11 - 1:24:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Atheism isn't a set way of thinking. It's the absence of belief.

It may naturally lead to certain ways of thinking, rather than others. But there is no absolute correlation.

I think when an atheist encounters someone saying that atheism is a religion (depending on what point the person is trying to make, of course) it'd probably be beneficial to just assume they're saying something about secular-humanism and they just aren't very informed on the technical workings of the vocabulary involved (for people not too interested in the entire thing, I'd imagine it's a rather complex maze)

While looking around for pictures to make fun of you guyzes, I stumbled upon this.

The horror.

Does the 'non-stamp collector' go around trying to convince stamp collectors to become non-stamp collectors?
10 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Monday 2/7/11 - 2:03:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
Probably only if they bring up their stamp collection at a dinner party. Nobody wants to hear about that.

There is no such thing as an apsense of belief. To say that you don't believe is itself part of your beliefs.

good point. Atheism may not be a religion in the literal definition of the word, but it is a definable belief itself.
