Eyes are popping, keyboards are clicking and parents are losing it over this viral video of grammar-school girls shaking their 8- and 9-year-old booties to Beyonce's hit "Single Ladies" at the recent World of Dance competition in Los Angeles.

The father of one of the little rascals defended the dance on Good Morning America, saying the girls' performance was "completely normal for dancing" and just "doing something they completely love to do." Two parents spoke to Inside Edition, expressing shock at the negative reaction and denying that last month's moves were "overly sexual."

Well I can understand the parents reaction, but wouldn't they have seen it before they actually preformed?
If they didn't like it, why would they let them continue to learn the dance?

All homages and parodies done to this stupid song and music video are inappropriate as far as I'm concerned.

The original was annoying enough. All these other tributes are completely unnecessary.

Oh god, I just saw this yesterday and was horrified.

I MIGHT be able to forgive some the dancing (except the pelvic grinding), but the costumes are irrefutably sexual and just in really bad taste. I can't believe women think it's okay to let their 8 year old daughters parade around in something a stripper would wear.

I'm sure the pedophiles are grateful, though.

This, the dancing is fine, all little girls copy or try to copy the moves they see in videos, just because these kids are good, doesn't make it any worse but the costumes are entirely inappropriate, especially now they can be posted all over the Internet, downloaded and leered over.

The simple fact that it went viral suggests that there's something that is either shocking or disturbing about it. Since "appropriateness" is a concept very much tied up in social norms, then that should suffice as an answer.

I'm not going to go as far as saying that it's "wrong" in any moral sense. But it's certainly discomforting any time pre-pubescent children have any attention drawn to any sense of sexuality at all, whether intentionally or not. In this case, I'd say the dancing isn't the worst culprit - at least among younger generations, that's still a world away from "bumping and grinding". The worst part, as others have noted, is the costumes - clothing basically made for the sake of drawing attention to erogenous zones and reveal all else.

Yes of course its inappropriate. Little girls grow up way too fast.
But, neither is Beyonce's video.

Well that's debatable because until you watch it, you wouldn't know if it was "disturbing".

It went viral because there's millions of bored people out there looking at whatever is put in front of their faces.

If i had an 8 year old daughter i think i would probably be very uncomfortable with her doing it. More so with people getting off on her doing it.

Anyone getting upset over this has no right to. The parents should have known what their kids were doing, dancing to, etc. and should have either pulled them from the dance or spoken to the dance instructor if they had a problem with it.
Any other parents don't have the right to complain about it because these are not their own kids. If it bothers you, simply don't watch it and it won't get publicity.

So no one should be concerned that parents pimp their kids out to dubious "modelling" websites where they are pictured in similar skimpy outfits for pedophiles to leer over because "these are not their own kids"?

I guess no one should be corcerned about children who are starved, beaten or sexually abused by their parents either because "these are not their own kids".

Everyone should just not care about anyone else unless they are their legal guardian.
12 yrs ago - Saturday 5/15/10 - 11:01:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
tbh, I think it's fine
but they probably gon get raped
12 yrs ago - Saturday 5/15/10 - 11:54:59 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well that was disturbing.
12 yrs ago - Sunday 5/16/10 - 12:33:28 AM EST (GMT-5)
There's no doubt that they have a ton of talent, but I think they could save that for when they're older. Stick to something appropriate. The outfits bothered me much more than the dancing.
12 yrs ago - Sunday 5/16/10 - 1:12:55 AM EST (GMT-5)
No thats hot.

One word (technically three):

Wtf?
11 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 7/16/10 - 2:10:38 PM EST (GMT-5)
I dont think the littl girls should have been taught such a sexual looking dance, but not going to lie they definitely have talent
11 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Tuesday 7/20/10 - 4:39:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
They're 8 and 9. That's the absolute height of inappropriacy.
11 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 8/20/10 - 2:51:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
The outfits showed too much of their little belly. If they'd been covered up just a little more, no one would have had anything to say.
