It is even worse that someone is that stupid and in Congress. I don't think even Bush was that dumb.

As a general thing, islands don't capsize.

Kiki's running out of stories to make into passable questions. Now she moved onto the stories that make atrocious questions.

That comment has to be hyperbole, and either way, his point it valid, even if his geology is lacking...

The comment wasn't hyperbole. The guy was dead serious when he said it.

You could watch the video in the story and judge for yourself.

Update 6:30 p.m. ET: Johnson released a statement on Thursday saying he was joking, according to CNN.
"The subtle humor of this obviously metaphorical reference to a ship capsizing illustrated my concern about the impact of the planned military buildup on this small tropical island," the statement said.
Not like anyone (including Kiki) read the whole thing though.
Couldn't she at least have read the whole article and made a valid question?

Hmmm. Maybe the fellas were thinking the military will be too intrusive, ("bah! Not GUAM!! So INNOCENT!")
maybe maybe maybe.

Sounds like hyperbole, at least the way the story reads it shouldn't be taken any other way.

QFT blueandgray. And, after reading up on his congressional history, I'm even more skeptical that he was a serious. LSU, some people are just really deadpan. A dry sense of humor has been the cause for more then just a few misunderstandings.
How many more people are informed about the issues in Guam that would have otherwise been had his comments not gone viral? What a better way to spread the word in a media that is bogged down with issues like Iraq, Afghanistan, healthcare, and a laundry list of sex scandals from all over the place!

If you can watch the video and still say that the guy was just joking, you must be able to see humor almost anywhere.
