well I had a 'promise ring' that is a bit similar after a few years of dating my wife- - in Korean culture it's fairly common

This smells of something cooked up by the diamond industry to increase sales

If he'd appreciate it, I don't see why not. I can't imagine many men wanting a big diamond-encrusted engagement ring, anyway.

I wear my Dad's wedding ring.

When we get married I'll wear the same ring.

Mangagement ring? Stupid name...

I don't want an engagement ring myself, and wouldn't expect my partner to wear one either.
12 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/19/09 - 5:19:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
Sure, why not?

Ha. This made me laugh my @$$ off.

I guess it would depend on how much it meant to him. I think it's a little rediculous myself, but if my man insisted on it.. well.. I'd be cool with it for him.

the name is stupid...but I don't know why the man wouldn't wear an engagement ring if the woman was. they're both engaged, right?
12 yrs ago, 6 mos ago - Thursday 11/19/09 - 11:16:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
Heh, I don't even want an engagement ring if I ever do get engaged. And I wouldn't ever think to get whatever guy I'm with one either.

Jewellery's not one those things I really think about much. And especially in those terms, I see it as pointless since you both know you love each other and are wanting to be committed. You don't need a ring for that.

I think the woman would buy it for her man...or does she just pick out the ring and tell him to buy it for himself?

Hmmm...

Now that I groove on the question, what DOES a woman give a man if she should propose?

I don't see a problem with it. After my husband proposed to me, I surprised him by proposing to him later and giving him a white gold band. When we got married, I gave him a titanium band.
