Lies will only put it off and make it even worse later on, when it is most likely that the person has JUST picked themselves up and are starting to good again- making them fall right back down.
But I suppose it depends on the lie. Like if its just a stupid little white lie, then fine, but if its like "oh, no, there was no other bills for you to pay, dont worry about it!!!" ... no.
