I live in the woods, and I usually brush my dog outside or on the porch anyway, so yes.

No, I never thought of it like that, but my dog has those little short hairs and they are almost impossible to brush off anyway and most of them get swept up with the broom or vacuum and thrown away.

No, I've never heard of doing that. We have a short haired chihuahua so there isn't much hair.

We did that when brushing my old dog, cause her fur was really thick and curly, perfect for bird nests. Our current dog is short-haired though, so it doesn't really work that well.

if you are concerned about that maybe you should get a bird feeder and put the hair on it. Just hang it high enough so it does not become a cat feeder.

Our two Doxies have smooth coats so they don't really shed long hair. This doesn't apply for them.
But the horses, during shedding season in the spring will shed buckets of hair at a time. It goes into the manure bucket or wheelbarrel and then goes outside. The birds are welcome to it.
