Do you like it when rap and hip-hop are combined with other genres, like rock or country? Examples: the Willie Nelson song Snoop Dogg did 'My Medicine', Run DMC teaming up with Aerosmith for 'Walk this Way', regular songs that do a version that breaks into hip-hop like Mosey coming out into 'Little Pink Houses' by John Cougar Mellencamp on VH1's Storytellers.

It was fine the way it was. One of my friends tried to "get me into hip hop" by showing me a song someone did (no idea who) by sampling The Ocean by Led Zeppelin. It pissed me off. It was terrible. AND, they added an extra beat the the 3/4 measure of the original song just to make it easier for their hip hoppishness. Wow, way to go, even that was too hard for them to handle. Why the f#ck would I want to listen to that when I can hear the real song? Sorry. /rant. Haha.

If it's the modern-day type of each genre, it's bound to be absolutely abysmal. But I've also heard some great examples of classic, intelligent hip-hop being mixed into blues, swing, metal and even orchestral songs. And the results are incredible. Mixing either into music is never going to embelish the music itself, just give it a new dimension to work with. It all depends on what era the samples are taken from and how seamlessly it's mixed. And I wouldn't listen to it out of choice.
