Do you think this economic plan of giving everyone older than 50 in the American workforce $1,000,000 has any merit?

Since it's on snopes, I'd say no

As Snopes pointed out, the sum that would have to be handed out would be 40 trillion $ and not 40 billion as claimed.

Besides I think that planning, organizing and actually doing this would take many years of time and loads of additional resources.

It's not on Snopes because it's a bad idea, it's just there because the math was wrong in the original plan.

I think $40 trillion is less than it will cost anyway with all their 'bailouts', but if they changed it to $100,000 I bet similar things would still happen. Right now to someone who is older than 50 and just lost their entire retirement account, $100,000 makes a world of difference.

Wouldn't the people who lost their jobs need it a little more?

That's part of the plan - early retirement for seniors, freeing up jobs for younger unemployed people.

Yeah because older people not as fortunate than we are and it would be fair to give them some money .

I think the younger people could use help too and besides the people in the 50s age group fall into the baby boomers category and generally are holding all of the good jobs right now.

So, are you saying "yes," or "no"? It sounds a little bit like you're contradicting yourself

Since the people over 50 have all the "good" jobs, like you said, then the plan would make those jobs available.

Well regardless of whether those people receive the money, many of them just refuse to retire and so I think that the money should actually go to help younger people get an education so that they can fill the jobs that the baby boomers already hold. I read an article that said there won't be enough people to fill all of the jobs that the baby boomers hold right now because not enough of us have an education.
