I think it is foul crap and I love cheese. It isn't cheese; it's a "processed dairy product" or something.

It barely even qualifies as cheese.

Only if it's not those individually wrapped things. For some reason those taste nasty. It's really best from the deli, but I've also gotten the packages where they're just stacked together, and those are OK, too.

is it fair to call that 'American cheese'? I've had some really good American cheddar and Monteray Jack. You can get processed slices in any country.

That's the brand name = American Cheese. As you can see on the wrapper in the second picture...

This.
And other stuff, too. Like hamburgers. Or maccaroni.

I like it, most likely because I grew up not being able to eat it, and watched my friends have it at lunchtime very often made me want more of it.
I know it's crappy, but I can't help liking it

You mean like "Kraft American?" They ought not to be allowed to call it cheese. On the other hand, there is plenty of good American made cheese available.

Kraft makes some, but lots of brands make American cheese. Even generic. GAG.

I'll eat it although it wouldn't be my preferable choice. It looks like plastic or something.

you are probably eating fake processed american cheese (the stuff in the individual wrappers) go get some from a deli and it will taste much different!
