Yup, every year at least once. I was always terrified that I may have had lice, but thank God I never did.

Our school nurse is non-existent most of the time. She only comes around once at the start of the school year when the grade 9s get immunized.

No, but when I taught preschool, the teachers would regularly check the children's hair.
We also regularly checked each other's hair (each teacher checked other teachers).
We never found any, but we checked regularly anyway
(Note, you check especially around the where the hair meets the back of the neck, and behind the ears.)
Just thinking about it makes my head itch...

Yeah! And I ended up GETTING lice from a Russian Foreign exchange student named ksenia, whose long silky blond hair was LOADED with it. I got the nits, my mom removed them and treated them and then I was back in school the next day.

No the school nurse never did anything like that. I don't think we even have/had school nurses.
I did end up getting lice in elementary school though. I found that out myself and I'll spare you the nasty details.

Yes, once or twice a year in grammar school. I remember she would poke around in your hair with a little wooden stick.
