So it's not enough that they include prayer in everything the government does, now they have to actively exclude atheists to appease you people?
Very Christian.

I think Christians need to get over the fact that they aren't the only ones living in the United States. we aren't a Christian nation; we're not an atheist nation; we're a nation that doesn't have a specified religion...that's the whole "freedom" concept.

i'm glad that he made that remark. the christian majority needs to stop treating nonbelievers like second-class citizens.

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
I'm a little non-plussed by the people who are offended. Obama said, "We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus - and non-believers." What part of that is not true? Or perhaps the problem is that people who are religiously intolerant wished it weren't true?

Yeah, I'm not sure conception of America is justified with a statement like:
"It's important to understand the heritage of our country, and it's a Judeo-Christian tradition, period."
A failure to acknowledge that non-religious people, and non-Christians, make up a significant part of America today (both in number and prominence) is taking traditionalism to the point of sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting "la la la not listening".
In the long run, not acknowledging, and to at least some extent, accommodating for that is going to do these religious groups more harm than good.

It seems like a pretty stupid thing to be offended about.
It's probably more offensive that he didn't include the Believers that adhere to the non-mainstream religions (Buddhism, Hindu, Wicca, etc.).

Christians need to read the f-cking bible.
Seriously, do "hate the sin, love the sinner" and "love thy neighbour".
The first one just shows you have no reason to discriminate against anyone who believe differently to you or is different to you. Stop hiding behind Jesus.
To answer the question: Nope, was glad he said that. Shows the US isn't actually a "Christian nation".

I like that he mentioned us non-believers. It would be incredibly stupid to be offended by that.

Not at all. I'm an atheist, and I was prepared to be excluded. However, I was pleasantly surprised to be included.

Not to burst your feel-good bubble or anything, but since you are not in the US, he really didn't really include you...
