No. What's the point in worrying about something you have no control over?

OMG, it's not a frickin' "miracle."
And no, I've always know that birds and plane engines don't mix.

No, it's not a miracle in any way.

Even if you don't take the religious definition, and the colloquial one: "mere chance that something terrible didn't happen" - it's still a frickin miracle.

I wouldn't call it mere chance, but it was an unlikely outcome.

I just wonder why it doesn't happen more often.

Bird/plane collisions are actually pretty common.
Taking down both engines is pretty rare, though.

Have to disagree as others have - that was definitely a miracle. If any little variable had been changed, not everyone would have survived.

I'm waiting for PETA to come out with a call to ban airplanes...

Every time somebody wins the lottery must be another miracle happening, then? 'Cause if any little variable had been changed, the lottery wouldn't have been won.
Anyway, wasn't there some ultrasound device on airplanes that's supposed to scare birds away?

Except it's not tragic when someone doesn't win the lottery.

I'm not sure how well such a thing would work- - the roar of the jet engines would probably have the same effect. Unfortunately, birds really don't hear all that well.
The jet is moving much faster than a bird- - by the time a bird would change direction to "get away" from an approaching jetliner, it would likely already be too late...

I'm more afraid that the driver in the next lane is going to do something stupid than I am about birds and airplains.

Do you continue to drive your car after a mechanical problem is found and fixed?

The link changed so I can't refer to it, but I don't recall them saying it was fixed.

How do you think the investigators found out about it? They read through the maintenance/repair log...

Sweet. I want to be on one of those planes. I like it when the plane is only half full.
