It would certainly make a lot of sense.
PTSD is a lot more of a burden on someone than getting shot in the ass.

Well, thats a tough one. I think almost all soldiers come home with some degree of PTSD, so we'd be giving out quite a bit of purple hearts. I'm not saying they wouldnt deserve it anyway.

No, I don think so. It makes sense in in theory, but something about it seems wrong. They estimate that about 40% of infantry soldiers of any war have PTSD.

I agree with what the others have said...it's a sad fact, but too many of our soldiers have some degree of PTSD to be able to award them all in this way.
Maybe just not sending them back over there would be a more sensical decision.

No these soldiers are wounded on the inside. Not that they wouldnt deserve it but i think it would make them feel worse than they do.

Making a commitment to provide counseling and care as they work through their PTSD would be more useful.
Unfortunatly, the military doesn't seem to be willing to do that, either.

I think giving out Purple Hearts for PTSD would somewhat bastardize the Purple Heart.
I also agree with Wanderer. More after care needs to be provided for those suffering from PTSD and other service related ills.
Leave it to a genius like "W" to start a war, then try to shut down a bunch of VA hospitals.

If a grand douche like John Kerry can walk around with three purple hearts yet be a fully functioning individual, then someone suffering from life-long debilitating PTSD deserves some recognition too.
I'm not saying that everyone with any degree of the disorder should get one, but something about the aforementioned scenario doesn't make sense.
