Nope, I never have..

I have. I was denied because the company fired me for "breaking a reasonable company rule."

Except that neither the company or the person who denied my claim would tell me what that rule was. And it came on the heels of a call I made to the Better Business Bureau complaining about the way they handled a sexual harassment case I tried to file.

Wow...that smells like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Because I lived in a Hire-At-Will state, it was determined that my company was not required to give me a reason for firing me, which I thought was pretty sh*tty considering how long I had worked there and the surrounding circumstances.

Here, you automatically go on benefits when you're sixteen if you're parents don't earn enough

I don't what it's like in the US, but here you certainly can't call them 'handouts'. In order to get the dole (unemployment benefits) you have to a full time job seeker, spending around 40-52 hours a week looking for work

I wouldn't consider it a handout. Part of the taxes you pay on each check goes into unemployment insurance and when you apply for it, you get an amount based on what you paid into it at your previous job.

It must depend on you're circumstances because I have friends that have to spend 48 hours a week job-seeking or in courses run by job-seeking agencies

I have a friend here who was on unemployment. They say that you are supposed to be actively looking for work, but really all that means is that they have you fill in a couple of jobs you've applied for that week on a form... and they only have you fill that in once a month or so. At least, that's how it was for her.
13 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Sunday 2/8/09 - 6:06:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
no. ive never been fired
12 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 12/27/09 - 3:22:38 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, my mom is on disability though.
Watching my mom leech off the government when she could find some kind of sedentary job is one of the main reasons why I consider myself an anarcho-capitalist.
