I feel like that could end up terribly. It's possible to have bad hallucinations too...I'd rather not risk it if I were already in pain. I'd rather just get drunk or high.

I think it would depend on what kind of hallucinations they were. If they were mild enough I could go about my day then sure why not.

If the pain was really that bad I'd at least give the meds a try.

Halluinogenics won't make you feel better if you're in pain. In fact it will just make things worse. Any feelings you felt prior to taking the drug will just be magnified.

I start to disconnect from reality whenever I am down, so I don't think I would be too bothered by hallucinating from a medication.

My guess is that if you're in that much pain, your hallucinations aren't going to be of unicorns and rainbows...more likely zombies and madmen.
If I'm facing severe, chronic pain, I'll go with death.

Who says hallucionations have to be bad just because you're in pain? And, if you were taking medication, you wouldn't be in pain. Touché.
Point being, I don't think the level of pain you are experiencing is in any way connected to the hallucionations you experience. Why would they?

Why wait for the pain?
(actually, probably not. It would depend on the severity of the pain and the effectiveness of less drastic alternatives.)

Sure, whatever. Can't be worse than the stupid brain zaps and migraines from Cymbalta.

My sleep medication gives me serious hallucinations, so why not?
Fortunately, the stuff I'm using to treat my chronic pain now is working just fine without that side effect.

Cymbalta is horrible, it f*cked my heartbeat up so much I had to immediately stop taking it and I got the zaps. Those are the worst.
