I have a cousin who lives there, and another cousin who just adopted a Thai child. I believe about half of my extended family has visited various parts of the country, so why not?

Yeah, I mean I am thai. It's hell in the summer, but I heard it's nice in the winter. They also got banana boats.

If I'm on that side of the Earth I'll just hop a plane to Australia.

There are a lot of other places I would like to visit first but yeah I would like to one day visit Thailand.
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/5/08 - 3:09:58 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't have any interest in visiting Thailand.
I might go if someone got me a free plane ticket and hotel reservations. But, even then, I'd have to think about it.

13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/5/08 - 6:28:03 AM EST (GMT-5)
I have, and I loved it. The food is amazing, the people are very friendly and always seem to be smiling. The temples, beaches, rainforests, and everything about it was magical. I'd totally go back there.

Me too. Makes me want to go there, but there are other countries I'd rather visit first.

Sure. Incidentally I hear its a very popular tourist destination for perverts. They have their own travel agencies and everything.

Honestly, I don't know a whole lot about Thailand beyond loving Thai cuisine (which is probably Americanized), and hearing stories about their red-light districts.

Everyone else's stories thus far come across as very appealing, however.

Their national sport is a martial art called Muay Thai. It is one of the most brutal sports in the world. It has a pretty high death rate for a sport.

That's one more thing you know

Also, criticizing the king is illegal, and the law is harshly enforced. To the point of Thailand banning youtube a while back because a youtube clip made fun of him.

no thanks

It has interested me for quite some time. However, im not sold on the extremely long flight. A friend of mine went in highschool, she said it was a 24 hour flight, plus the layover in Japan. Im not opposed to the layover though I would love to buy worthless crap from a Japanese vendor.

I'd love to. I had plans to... but they fell through.

Actually, I've been to Thailand and Thai food in America is pretty accurate! I had pad thai, chicken satay, and much more that I've had in Thai restaurants here. Granted, in the village where I was the food was a little more... rustic than it is in American Thai restaurants. (Let's just say, I helped slaughter the chicken)
Thailand was definitely an amazing country, with wonderful people and beautiful scenery. I never felt unsafe even though I was no where near touristy areas for most of my trip. The 17 hour flight from NYC was definitely worth it! Go if you ever get the chance!

It's not at the top of my list, but I'd certainly go if the opportunity came up.
