Excessive pride isolates anyone. Bush just changed it from a " oh those Americans" attitude in the global communtity to more of a "f*ck off already" response.

We had very good relations with much of the world under Clinton. I don't remember 1000's of protesters when Clinton got off the plane.

Probably because you were 9 the last time that happened

I wouldn't know how isolated we're seen as, you'd have to ask someone outside the US I suppose

Isolationism is something that's always been part of American culture. The whole Revolutionary War was started because we were separate from Europe. We were able to civilize and expand so quickly because we were able to do it without much influence from the rest of the world and we weren't as affected by national strife because we were the only nation near us when we had started.

That sort of mindset is still present in modern-day politics. We don't see the rest of the world as our problem as much as another country would because we're so distant (geographically). I'm not saying that's bad or good, but you can't blame it all on Bush.

nah, we Americans did that without his help.

We really aren't using any isolationist policies now.

Truth be told, I believe we should go back to that.
