It bothers me that someone hacked into a person's private e-mail account. And it has already been reported that the yahoo account was not used to send government e-mail, so the Washington Post must be wrong.

Do you have a link to that report, lsu90? I haven't seen it.

It doesn't bother me, though I hear it isn't true.

If the government issued one is more secure that should be what she uses. I'm sure she's learned that though.

Yes, it does. Especially the multiple people testifying that part of the reason she did it was to avoid potential subpoenas.

On the otherhand, I have a government email address and I know plenty of people that don't use it because its awkward, clunky, slow, and has an absurdly low size limit as well as very low limit to the size of attachments that can be sent.

No, it just seems odd to me.

I suppose it could jeopardize security, but other than that, not in the slightest unless it will convince someone who was going to vote for McCain not to. In that case, I would be happy to put up a big stink over it.

I have just the article for you:

Why it's not a good idea for politicians to use personal e-mail accounts.

And I'll throw in another:

Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail all vulnerable to Palin-style password-reset hack
13 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 9/30/08 - 2:19:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
i understand that they are vulnerable to attack, but
1) very few emails aren't
2) i think she is free to use whatever email carrier she prefer - i use gmail for my own personal business
3) at least there were no "damaging" emails in her inbox. i think that's a good thing for any politician!
13 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 9/30/08 - 2:35:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
The main reason to be concerned is if she is using the personal account in order to avoid Freedom of Information resquests.
13 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 9/30/08 - 2:38:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
i'm iffy on that subject really. i feel like the government tries to meddle too much in people's affairs, even its' leaders. but, on the other hand, there should be clarity in a leader's practices. it's a hard call. but i do think that intentions should be brought into play, and i don't think that it necessarily meant she had bad intentions. she might have just found that yahoo was easier to operate.

From Kiki's link:

Palin's e-mail policies do show a certain Rovian or perhaps Cheney-esque partiality for secrecy. The New York Times reported Sunday that shortly after she took office, Palin's aides discussed the benefits of using private e-mail accounts, with one assistant noting that messages sent to Palin's BlackBerry "would be confidential and not subject to subpoena."

I know where I work (a state-funded institution), if you use a non-government email for non-personal business, you are in violation of state law.
13 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Friday 10/10/08 - 11:01:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
Aww she even writes in netspeak when talking about possible criminal charges against her:

Fired official asked Palin about her car-seat use with son Trig

12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Friday 4/30/10 - 11:31:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
Uh no. Someone hacked her account, why is she the problem for having an email at yahoo? :/
12 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 5/1/10 - 2:47:26 AM EST (GMT-5)
Using a personal e-mail account for official government business is against several laws, each of which was passed for excellent reasons - - like keeping the public officials at least slightly honest. Palin's unwillingness to cooperate with the law in that regard tells me she is even more dishonest than I had hitherto believed.
