"It might be unfair calling Jessica Simpson's show at the Avalon Ballroom a train wreck. At some point, a train knows where it's going. Simpson, on the other hand, has jumped the rails from pop to country like she's trying on a new coat at Macy's. And while the resulting album might surprise some cynics, this cowgirl seems completely lost and desperate for approval on stage. It made for a bizarre and often frustrating show. Simpson needs to explain in exhausting detail what every single song is about, and the endless banter kills any momentum...It was probably a bad sign that the show started with a taped message from Willie Nelson, basically asking us to give Jessica a chance. She then hit the stage to "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" - not the only classic she'd maim this night, but the most grating...

Should Jessica Simpson give up the whole country crossover thing?

eh, I tend to take anything critics say with a grain of salt. They're critics. I can't say I take Willie Nelson more seriously about most things. But about music I do. Also, this "john law" critic person does seem to think the album is okay, and that its just the show that wasn't good. Which isn't really a big deal. Sometimes musicians have bad days, and things don't go well on stage. You just try to do better in the next town.

Anyway I'm not a fan of country music or Jessica Simpson so I really don't have much to say on it.

i think she'll have better luck with country than she did with all that 90's pop crap

I didn't know this was the direction Jessica Simpson was taking. I'm indifferent to what she does, but I imagine she'll churn out a few mildly listenable hits and then move on to something else, like she did with pop.

Who cares?

She should just give up singing altogether.

Actually, you used up the majority of your character limit saying what you think on it.

I can't see Jessica Simpson as a country girl. Country singers are down to earth. They aren't airheads: they know that Chicken of the Sea is not chicken, and they'd rather eat fried chicken anyway. I should know, I was raised on country music.

Down to earth? Two Words: Faith Hill. Two more words: Shania Twain.
They aren't airheads? Two words: Kellie Pickler.
If she does country videos, I hope she breaks out the Daisy Dukes and pink bikini again!!!

And you are the expert because you were "raised on country music"?
Well, I was raised on country music too, but all that warrants me is knowing a bunch of country songs.

I personally think that country is more of Jessica's style. She sounds more comfortable singing country when she is actually singing it and not babbling on about what the song means.
I think she probably feels she has to prove herself at this point being that she jumped from pop to country and also proving that the songs she's singing aren't about Nick or whoever her last boyfriend was.

I think Jess should give up clothes. At least for a little while.

she ought to give up the whole show business thing, actually.

I think she should stop singing, period.

She needs to go away altogether.
12 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Friday 6/19/09 - 2:53:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't care for her singing at all, but whatever she wants to do is up to her.

She's vying for that hickish fan base. I saw her once in an article, all decked out in her boots made for walkin' and I thought to myself....why?
