most likely

Well, if the resident Muslim (kurgen) is anything to go by, then I'd say a BIG fat YES.
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 7/27/08 - 4:54:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
i'm sort of torn on this because of the fuzzy idea of the 'western world'. They may well dislike the UK and US governments, a lot of non-muslims agree with them but I doubt they have too many ill feelings about their neighbours and colleagues in their daily lives.
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 7/27/08 - 7:01:51 AM EST (GMT-5)
i think the ill feelings are towards countries who try to harm them and their communities only. Otherwise... definitely not. Muslims are after all only human like everybody else!!!
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 7/27/08 - 11:08:59 AM EST (GMT-5)
No. Definetly not the majority.
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 7/27/08 - 11:13:20 AM EST (GMT-5)
I feel they do.
I feel non-muslims from the eastern world also harbor ill feelings toward the western world.
It's a non-denominational thing.
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 7/27/08 - 11:41:37 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think they do. I think both sides think the other hates them more than is true
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 7/27/08 - 4:00:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, I have been to the several countries in the Muslim world and, it is strange, they don't like the Western countries, but they would do almost anything to come here to work and live.
They do have ill-will towards especially America because America supports the state of Israel (which is draconinan in its treatment of the Palestinians) and supports the oppressive governments of many of their own countries.
Ingrained in the Muslim consciousness is the knowledge that Islam was once in the ascent and they were superior to Europe (from the late 7th Century until the 16th Century) and they controlled Spain for 700 years (until 1492) and much of southeast Europe under the Ottomans until the 1800s.
They see the Western countries using their political, economic, and military hegemony in the world to abuse Muslim countries and keep them down
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 7/27/08 - 4:07:52 PM EST (GMT-5)
They look to American military involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq and threats towards Iran and interpret it as a systematic attack on Islam.
They interpret what is going on in the world right now as a modern-day Crusade. They look back to the Crusades of the 9th until 12th Centuries (and that the Crusades were started by the West and subsequently lost by the West) and make connections between the two. What thery don't understand is that America and the Western world is no longer religious and Christian... they have become secular and "post-Christian" (especially France, Britain and Germany)... they still are looking at the conflict in religious terms, instead of a clash of cultures.
Also, the Muslim world is in a terrible state of affairs... all the governments are repressive and the people have little rights and their economies are in shambles
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 7/27/08 - 4:15:03 PM EST (GMT-5)
unemployment is high, wages are low for those who have jobs, and the socio-economic elites exploit the masses... and they see America and Western cultures with so much wealth... they have none, while the West has everything... and this causes a lot of resentment and anger. Desperation is a breeding ground for anger. But instead of channeling this angry energy into something constructive, they lash out in irrational and violent ways.
Also in their countries, they can't complain about their own governments (the government has "informants" in every masjid (mosque), cafe, restaurant, etc.)... if they do, they're thrown in prison and tortured... thus, who do they complain about and vent their anger? the West and Israel. And the Muslim world is given to conspiracy theories (especially the conspiracy theory that the West is out to destroy Islam by hook or by crook, militarily,
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Sunday 7/27/08 - 4:17:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
politically, economically, culutrally, etc.

I think that if the situations were reversed... and the West was weak and the Muslim world strong (as was the situation fom the late 7th Century until the1500s), the West would be behaving similarly as the Muslim world is behaving today.

And dazajane, I am a good friend with "the Kurgan". We grew up together. He is not a Muslim. I have no idea where you got that idea. He considers himself a "hanif". He believes in the God of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam (and what was taught by Zarathushtra). He gives his allegience to God and His Ur-religion without claiming allegience to any established religion. He is a graduate student in Sociology of Religion and he seeks out wisdom and knowledge from the world's great religions (especially Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). You may have been confused because of his great respect for Islam and that he often quotes the Qur'an and the sayings of Muhammad.

Hi kurgan.

??

Hi Prp... Dont mind dazajane.seems like anyone who sides with the Kurgan is "THE kurgan" himself to her. Anyhow... i must agree with you there is oppression in the eastern world.. but you must also admit that the attacks from the US on Iraq, Afghanistand and probably soon Iran are not merely economic as you say. you must understand that Israel has taken over palestine coz they believe its the land of their ancestors and its what Judism has told them. Jews in Israel are very religious and fanatic people... prob is the western media shows ONLY muslims as fanatics. Israel is digging under the Aqsa mosque coz they believe their sacred temple is there,,, and they are doing everything in their effort to implement their zionist plan that has been drawn a very long time ago. So please dont claim that Muslims are living in a conspiracy theory. They think islam is a threat to them & the west helps
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 7/28/08 - 3:45:46 AM EST (GMT-5)
Not necessarily. I suspect that many Muslims outside the Western world (whatever that is), Have feelings of ambivalence or confusion about the West, as many, if not most Westerers do about Islam and the East.

pigeons are considered almost a delicacy in Morocco. traditional pastilla is made from pigeon meat. I heard that pigeon meat is very tasty. but I just couldn't try it. to me, pigeons are sky rats.

well, ouiji, i wasn't saying that the american attacks on afghanistan and iraq (and possible attack on iran) were economic in origin. actually, such attacks were more political and cultural in nature than economic. (actually, i think bush's fool-hearty invasion on iraq was more personal than anything. it was a personal vendetta against saddam because he believed that saddam had plans to have bush's father assassinated in 1991/1992 when bush the elder visited a liberated Kuwait.)
we are dealing with a clash of cultures. what i was saying is that many muslims misinterpret these attacks as religious in nature and another Crusade. but in reality the West is secular and irreligious and "post-Christian". these invasions were not religious... unless we see it as a secular attack on Islam... but it isn't Christianity vs. Islam
13 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 7/28/08 - 5:29:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
and the jews in israel are so varied in nature. there are religious jews (orthodox and conservative), pseudo-religious jews (reformed and reconstructionist), and non-religious jews (atheist/secular/"ethnic"). but i think the secular jewish population is much more numerous than the religious jewish population... and the israeli government is secularly-based. most of the zionist founders of israel were secular and not religious.
but it is indeed true that the israeli government is draconian against the palestinians and the israeli jewish population (both religious and secular) is anti-Islam.

lushuspigeon, i made the comment about pigeons because your moniker... i didn't think it would take a genius to see the connection.

Prp... i do believe that the US attack on Iraq could be a personal vendetta... and some of the other attacks economic and so on. but i do recall a speech said by Bush.. announcing that this is going to be the next crusade war...especially after the 9/11. So im guessing if he hasnt done any attacks with this agenda in mind... he soon will do so! As for Israel nation... you are right whether they are secular or religious they are anti- Islam.. and the US supporting it in everyway to annihilate the muslim popoulation slowly just puts the american government in the anti-islam field along! So i still cant help but think that the big picture they have in their minds eye is a world without this religion and without this muslim nation!
