Depends if you desperately need them.
"Americans to follow Europeans with one car per family..."
It's not uncommon for European families to have two cars, though. I don't think every American household has more then one aswell.

Nope, most people I know only have one per person - although a few have a "back-up" for when one is in for repairs, or a truck for moving/towing/etc when needed.
Less than that and it's really hard to live/work, etc.

No i don't think we own to many cars. Every person that has a license needs a car to drive. Every person i no has 1 car per person. And if you have a mom and a dad and they both work how would they get to their job if it is to far to walk they need a car. So not having a car makes it a lot harder to live and work. I don't think Americans have to many cars. I think they have the right amount but if they have over like 5 cars that might be a little much but it also depends on how many people are in that family so that question is sorta impossible to answer because you need to know how many people are living in one family to judge how many cars they have. My family has 5 people and we only have 3 cars so soon we might have 5 but that just because we have 5 people in my family. For people who only have 2 people in a family to have 5 cars is to much in my opinion. So it all depends.

Yes. But our public transportation system pretty much sucks, so there's not a whole lot we can do about it.

That's drating ridiculous!!
My family owns only one vehicle. Me and my sister take public transit, and my mother can't drive because she has the possiblity of suffering panic attacks, so driving for her would be too dangerous. Therefore, only my father uses the van.

I have a vehicle and my boyfriend has a vehicle. The public transport blows here, so it really isn't an option right now.

Not only do they have too many cars, the cars they own are WAY to inefficent. Sell your damn hummer and buy a VW golf or Toyota Priuses or any other small car or better yet, TAKE THE FREAKIN BUS!

So we own too many cars because 10% of the people have gas guzzlers? Big deal, they pay the price.
