Parents who bring children into this world are responsible for their upbringing. Parents have an obligation to the child, themselves, and society to raise an honorable and healthy child the best they can. Abuse (mental, or physical) should never be tolerated.

Yeah they kind of are, if there were signs

Well....I think,
"Could have done a better job" and,
"(Partially) at fault"
Are not quite the same and,
I think they'd be guilty of the former,
But not necessarily the latter.

Nobody's perfect but,
That doesn't always mean it's their fault.

Still, you'd certainly want to find out why
They didn't notice anything.

I don't think it's possible that parents wouldn't notice it. A child will act completely different when it was abused. It's in the parent's responsibilty to find out why.

I think that abuse can be hidden from parents extremely well. Although i think if a child is being abused by a family member that lives in the same house as them, how could you not have suspicions that something's going on?

How can you not notice? I know when something is bothering my kids, even something small.

I'm sure they'd feel incredibly guilty, but I don't like to use positive traits like trust, optimism, and innocence against people, and I think those things characterize a lot of parents who fall into this category.
