Ignorance is bliss. Besides, does anyone really believe that music makes a kid more prone to violence?

Some people do....I think media (i.e music, TV, games, etc) as a whole influence kids to be more promiscuous than violent

I for one listen to Marilyn Manson, and I'm probably one of the least violent people you could meet :)

It's subliminal.
They're paying attention to the music, but their brains are still proccessing the lyrics. If done right, music could actually be an effective form of hypnotism.

Depending on how impressionable the kid is, and how much the kid himself is looking for things like that, it does affect their minds to a certain degree.

No I don't think so. Unless the kid has issues that would make it vital to know what was being put into their mind..

My parents never monitored what I listened to and I can say that I was never deeply affected by a song lyric.

So, no. Not unless the kid has shown they need some monitoring.

Parents should pay close attention to everything their kids do. I know it's not something a lot of people are into, but it's this cool old idea I read about. It's called 'parenting' and it's where you raise your kids, rather than voting for people to make retarded repressive laws so that the government can raise them for you. Really, I think most of America should try it sometime.

Maybe they should, but i know mine don't care, "f*ck" is in alot of the songs i listen to.

And you sound very ignorant and assuming. If you would really listen to what I'm saying, and do the research you would find out that I'm right.

I'm not a fundimantalist, I'm just someone who bothered to do research and think for myself.

Depends, really, as a kid (kinda :/) stuff like rap and all that stuff that adults think makes children more violent doesn't really...the stuff you need to watch out for more is the hardcore bloody suicidal music and emo stuff. Trust me. As a kid. We know what we're talking about. Do you want your child wearing gold chains or wearing black and slitting their wrists?!

Only if they "care".

It really agitates me when my parents purchase the censored CD's.

I turn around and download the explicit version though so a victory for foul language.

For the most part, it doesn't seem important. Not that parents should completely ignore lyrics, but there are far more important things (e.g. TV shows, books, etc.) to worry about.

Maybe parents should play the CDs backwards, too, just in case.

Ohh, i remember one guy that killed someone like in one of slayers songs

Yes:
1. Parents are allowed to have standards for their children and listening to the lyrics is the most effective way to monitor that.
2. Parents should endeavor to know their children, and if their kids like music, it'd be a great thing for them to be able to talk about together.

No.

I think that this is one of those 'duh' questions. I'd moniter the lyrics of my daughters music the same way I moniter the books she reads, the tv shows she watchs and where she goes and who she talks to on the internet. My job as a parent is not being my childs best friend, but raising as decent a human being as possible and allowing her to listen to some of the garbage that is called music, would be abdicating my responsiblitiy to those who do not have my childs best interest at heart.

No, you shouldn't restrict an artistic form just because it's crude. Unless the lyrics are really inappropriate, racist, sexist, etc.
13 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 2/24/09 - 1:15:28 AM EST (GMT-5)
if the fisher price music says "behead your parents" perhaps they need to find other music for the kids.
