If a web site`s owner(s) can see what page you came to their site from, and what site you went to after, would you consider that an invasion of your privacy?

I suppose, but maybe they want to know what website they got the link to their site from. Therefore knowing what website is giving them the most traffic

Ofcourse it would be an invasion of privacy. They have no business looking what websites I go to.

Definitely. I wouldn't want anyone to know half of the websites I go to.

I guess so, then again, why would they want to know where I go, and/or where I came from? That sounds pretty sneaky to me.

I kind of do but at same time I'm apathetic, personally. Wow, she got directions to the Mall and then went to Amazon and then checked the weather. Wow.

But yes, it is.

Only if they knew who it was. Search engine companies know that customer #62907690223 is looking for cinema for adult viewing, but is that in invasion of that persons privacy? Not as long as the search engine only knows them as a number.

Uhm, no. They don't know who you are, and that information is just used for statistical purposes (i.e., my ads on site A are bringing people to my website, but not site B, site B is a waste of money). And they can only see what website you go to after if you use one of their links out.

Of course if you're completely paranoid about it, just use the address bar. Then as far as they know, you opened your browser, went to their site and closed it.

Yes. It's an invasion of privacy, and I don't like it.

I don't have anything to hide but yes, it is an invasion of your privacy.

IT is absolutely not an invasion of privacy.

you're just a number on a screen.

We can't look at our forum member lists and go

"Raphael went to x y and z and THEN HE LEFT FOR GOOGLE, the damn bastard"

*digs out his logs from his mainsite*

k so I can see:
where you came from, your IP address, and your browser, and what page exactly you called upon. And some other numbers that are feedback messages that I understand to know if a certain page is getting 404'd a lot or something.

and you know what?

Most webmasters do not use much of this information unless they have a true troublemaker. They can then remove the offending content and contact the appropriate authorities.

I'd be ok with them seeing how I got to their site, maybe they want to know who linked me to them, but the site I go to after has nothing to do with them - that's an invasion.

Now I think about it I probably would. But i haven't really got anything to hide anyway.
