Do you have an `ICE` phone number in your cell phone?
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.
If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn`t know who to call.
The concept of `ICE` is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name `ICE` (In Case Of Emergency).
The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn`t know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose.
In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialling the number you have stored as `ICE`.
For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc.

Yeah, that's what I would assume, too. I have my parents' and grandmother's numbers listed (well, my brothers' too, but there would be no way for someone I didn't know to know they were my brothers from their entries) so I would assume they would call one of them.
I would think most people have their parents listed under Mom, Dad, etc. so I'm not sure exactly why they say "nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends." I mean, I guess they don't have any way of knowing if you're actually close to your parents, but I think that would usually be a good place to start calling.
No, I'm pretty much sure they would just call my mom anyway, since she's listed as Mom. Plus, I have pictures next to everyone's name on the phone book, so you can kind of tell who's my age and who are older family members.
Yeah, my mom's cell. My sister told me about the ICE thing but my brother says they look up in your med records or something...I don't know who's right.
No, it's a stupid idea. Paramedic don't have time to play with your cellphone, and digging around your wrecked, blood car is a waste of time. You are going to be lucky of the paramedics so much as bring your phone with them.
I seriously doubt the TRUE creator of this was a paramedic, at least not in practice.
