Convicted sex offenders in Sweden are free to read pornography in their cells following a court ruling that has angered the prison service. The Supreme Administrative Court in Stockholm last week ruled that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service had no right to deny a rape convict access to his porn magazines.

Prison officials had argued that reading porn would interfere with the man's rehabilitation program. They also said the magazines posed a security problem for staff and other inmates because they could increase the risk of the man relapsing into criminal behavior. But the court, whose ruling cannot be appealed, said the prison service failed to prove that the magazines could 'jeopardize the security of the institution.'

wow right now 100% of men said yes..
14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 7/1/07 - 8:06:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Absolutely not.

Just like they don't need cable tv, movies, or video games.

Things like this anger me so much. They're in prison. Give them the necessities ONLY. They can have the luxuries when they leave prison.

14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Sunday 7/1/07 - 8:08:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
it seems like cinema for adult viewing mags should be a "luxury" of non-jail life to me

there are pluses and minuses to letting criminals have them, it should be up to the guards/ whoevers in charge as to whether or not they can have them

14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Monday 7/2/07 - 2:59:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think they should be provided by the jail, but if someone wants to draw a sexy picture for themselves or have some mailed in by friends, I think it's okay. Perhaps the administration could screen out violent cinema for adult viewing.
It makes sense to allow inmates to release their sexual frustrations instead of letting it build up and channel into physical aggession.
You could make the argument that they could just use their imaginations, but it seems like men have a hard time with that, as evidenced by their heavy use of pron outside of jail.

I don't think the issue is whether inmates should be allowed magazines in general, but whether cinema for adult viewingography can be singled out. And I don't see any good reason why it should be.
14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Monday 7/2/07 - 11:38:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
They shouldn't be allowed to do anything even remotely fun in prison.
14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 7/25/07 - 9:17:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
um..hell no, prison is not supposed to be a fun place where you're free to do whatever you want! they shouldn't be allowed to watch tv or play video games or anything else fun either. It is called prison for a reason!
14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 7/25/07 - 9:28:14 PM EST (GMT-5)
Of course not, that'd be ridiculous.
14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 7/25/07 - 9:45:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
If their family or friends buy it for them, I don't see the problem. The state should not buy anything like that for them.
Oh, regarding the picture for this question: I would hardly consider Playboy to be cinema for adult viewingography.

That's not true.
They should be able to ass rape the child molesters if they so desire.
14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 7/25/07 - 9:56:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't see the problem with it, but it's not allowed.
14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Wednesday 7/25/07 - 9:59:08 PM EST (GMT-5)
It shouldn't be funded, but if magazines slip around, they shouldn't be regulated. It's just cinema for adult viewing.

I disagree. If you lock someone up without ANY stimulation whatsover, they will literally go crazy.

I DO think their entertainment should be severely limited. But they need to be given a radio or something at least. You wanna punish them, not torture them.

I agree that they need to do something, but they should have a library, some basic skills classes (such as how to read, basic math, etc.) and music.

no, my dad put it on our desktop one time, and it was appauling. I can't forgive him.
14 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/15/07 - 10:04:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
Hopefully not child cinema for adult viewingography.
14 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/15/07 - 11:15:43 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think sex offenders or other serious criminals should be allowed any luxuries, including cinema for adult viewingography.
14 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 8/20/07 - 10:36:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
as long as it keeps 'em from raping each other...lol
14 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 9/2/07 - 5:40:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
Aren't they supposed to be getting just the bare minimum? Stuff like that (besides being gross) seems like a bit of a luxury to me.
14 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 9/23/07 - 12:30:55 AM EST (GMT-5)
Since when is "Playboy" cinema for adult viewingography?
14 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Sunday 9/23/07 - 12:34:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
No. Going to jail is a punishment, so criminals should not be allowed something that will take away their realization of why they are in jail.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 10/9/07 - 3:38:43 PM EST (GMT-5)
My ex told me that they are allowed to have cinema for adult viewing as long as it doesn't have penetration depictions. He said, also, that they aren't allowed to masturbate because it is considered "self-abuse". I think that's ridiculous. It's that person's body . . . let them use it however they want . . . as long as they aren't hurting anyone else with it!
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 10/9/07 - 7:00:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't like the idea of it being provided or state funded, but if they want to read cinema for adult viewing from some other source, sure, let them.
14 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Tuesday 10/9/07 - 7:02:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
No. Let them use their imaginations for a while.
