Not fired, but was there any point in pretending to shoot people? People shouldn't be so caught up in the freedom of speech that they loose tact.

we don't know if he was 'pretending to shoot people' for fun or making a point in class. It seems a bit much to fire someone.

I can't see why he should be fired for that.

He should of been disciplined, but not fired.

I think he should be spoken to and made aware of complaints against him, but he definitely shouldn't have been fired.

I'm surprised they can fire him, Academic Freedom being what it is. I certainly don't think he should be fired. Every single one of my profs talked about it. He chose to do so in a graphic manner, and that makes him effective, not insensitive.

I agree what the prof said about stifling an open debate. The whole point of higher education is to be able to tackle those tough subjects.

He made a point and the pussy school faculty couldn't take it. But hell, smacking down the minority is what society does best.

He definitely shouldn't have been fired. He was trying to make a point to the class, a point I can see easily. Using the marker as a prop, he was displaying exactly how easy it would be for someone with a gun to single out any of those students and end their lives. He was instilling a sense of realism into his discussion, and should not be faulted for it.

No, assuming that we're getting the whole story here. Firing someone for pretending to shoot people with a marker is ridiculous.

That's almost as ludicrous as the student who got expelled from his school for pointing a piece of chicken at a teacher and saying "Pow!"! What has the world come to?
