I don't think it's racist, but I do think it is rude.

I hadn't heard it either until the whole Imus thing came out. I didn't see it as really racist either, more insulting.

Not at all, I've heard that term all my life, for blacks and whites. No way it has anything specific to blacks, at least where I am from.

I've never heard the term 'nappy-headed' before, so I don't really know, but I'm not qualified to make that call anyway. The people it was directed at should have the last say in whether it's racist or not. Calling women hos is more offensive to me, personally.

^^^This was based on a recent American 'scandal' where a man called a black women's team a bunch of 'nappy-headed hos'. People think he's racist for it.

I heard about the Don Imus thing (I read about on YT), but that was the first time I'd ever heard anyone use that term, so I don't really know how offensive it is.

No. It's not racist. I've described peoples' hair as "nappy" before, but only when it actually was (and they knew it was), and no one got offended. To me, "nappy" is merely an adjective used to describe someone's hair; if they want to take it the wrong way, they're welcome to, although it makes *them* into the fool.

I think it is racist. What other race has "nappy" hair? And their hair wasn't nappy they were just black. That's like saying look at those ching-chong people eating rice. Racist.

I heard Oprah say it about herself once.

Yes. Nappy implies gross or dirty. If someone said "African-style hair" or hair that tends to be drier as opossed to oily, nope that's just stating a fact.

I thought it meant super-curly, not oily.

my hair is nappy, but if it's used as a racist comment, i would be offended. i would laugh it off to make the person who said it seem stupid though.

people, nappy means the extra tight curl patterns that only black people have. you can comb your hair out, but if you don't for a long time your hair can be so tight that it can break the brush or comb. it doesn't mean dirty, but i guess people think it looks dirty. when white people's hair is real tight its called frizzy or matted.

I found the 'hos' part of the comment more offensive than the 'nappy-headed' part. The 'nappy-headed' was racist only because it identified the race of the 'hos'. Had he called them 'black hos', it would have been equally offensive.
