White weddings might have been the dream of fashionable brides of old. But the trendiest weddings in Britain are now at least metaphorically green as couples seek to reduce the impact of their nuptials on the environment. That means everything from recycled wedding dresses and guests arriving by bicycle, to home-grown flowers and locally produced food for the wedding buffet.

'A year ago there was nothing green at wedding shows. I was really struggling to get the message across that green weddings are about 'eco-chic', not lentils and hessian,' said green wedding planner Ruth Culver. 'Now specialist venues, products and services are being launched every week.'

If you aren`t already married, would you consider having a `green` wedding?

I guess I would consider it when the time comes.
15 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 4/26/07 - 8:26:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
No. I plan on getting married (pfft) on a cruise ship.
15 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 4/26/07 - 8:34:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
Nope. It's probably more expensive than a regular wedding.
15 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 4/26/07 - 8:47:04 PM EST (GMT-5)
Nope, I don't want to marry.
15 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Thursday 4/26/07 - 9:43:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
That's nice, but that wasn't and wouldn't be my top priority. Our guests threw birdseed instead of rice. That's as green as we got.
15 yrs ago - Monday 4/30/07 - 10:41:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
I agree IRLIteach. Definatly not my top priority. It will be low keyed though
15 yrs ago - Monday 4/30/07 - 10:44:40 PM EST (GMT-5)
Ooh that woukd be cool. Odds are it wouldn't happen, but it'd be nice.
15 yrs ago - Monday 4/30/07 - 10:44:55 PM EST (GMT-5)
Definitely, but I wouldn't go so far as things like asking the guest to arrive by bicycle, etc. I wouldn't ask my guests to go out of their way to make it more 'green,' but I would probably be willing to go out of my way to make it more environmentally friendly.
15 yrs ago - Monday 4/30/07 - 10:50:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, I'm going all out...it's going to be as environmentally wasteful and hedonistic as possible. If you're only supposed to get married once, I'm going to make it an event to remember.
Besides, what bride wants the tail of her gown to be run over by the bicycle she's riding there?

I would consider the idea for any wedding other than my first, though.

15 yrs ago - Tuesday 5/1/07 - 12:06:06 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, that's f*cking LAME.
15 yrs ago - Tuesday 5/1/07 - 3:56:10 AM EST (GMT-5)
I like the idea, but as Burnt said, I wouldn't tell my guests how to arrive.
15 yrs ago - Tuesday 5/1/07 - 6:39:50 AM EST (GMT-5)
Some friends of mine had a wedding that everyone had to wear hiking gear, and we just went for a 5 hour hike in the mountains, reached a little spot, and the ceremony began. It was awesome, I'd love to have something like that.
15 yrs ago - Tuesday 5/1/07 - 6:40:55 AM EST (GMT-5)
I hate the environment. I'm going to hold my wedding in a big dirty factory, and the party is going to involve everyone just standing outside with aerosol cans spraying them into the air.
14 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 6/6/07 - 11:27:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
No way, it sounds expensive and pointlessly lame.
14 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 6/6/07 - 11:41:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'm not marrying until the gays can. By that point, the earth will already be so desroyed it will seem pointless.
14 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Monday 7/9/07 - 6:39:50 PM EST (GMT-5)
This "green" trend is getting annoying. I'ma take the muffler off my car now. That'll learn 'em. Muahaha...
14 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Thursday 8/2/07 - 6:41:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
the only green wedding I'm having is - Vegas baby !!!!
14 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 8/14/07 - 11:36:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
But for it to be effective, the wedding would have to be large. And I can't stand being the center of attention for longer than a few seconds.
14 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 9/20/07 - 12:58:53 PM EST (GMT-5)
Neat idea. I think I might go out of the way to make it more green myself, but I wouldn't tell people how to get there or ask for anything on their part. I like the homegrown flowers and locally produced food ideas.
14 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 9/20/07 - 1:31:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
It's a nice thought, but you could do something yourself cheaper if green is what you're after.

But then, I'm one that thinks that large weddings are a horrible waste of money.

I've been to a few that cost the price of a new house and THEN the newlyweds buy a house to make payments on interest for the next 30 years. Doesn't make sense to me.

14 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 9/20/07 - 1:39:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
We'd plan the registry office.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 1/2/08 - 7:41:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
It all sounds nice in theory... but that's about it.
14 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Wednesday 1/2/08 - 8:25:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
To go a little south park on your asses, I think th guests would have a hard time breathing with all the smug it'd produce.
13 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Thursday 10/9/08 - 12:02:34 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, that sounds ridiculous.

If you wanted to go green with a wedding dress.. you could just not wear anything..
