It's next to my leg.

Next to my leg. I don't think I could drive a manual transmission car that had the shifter behind the steering wheel. That would be really weird.

Next to my leg.
My mom's old car had it on the steering wheel, and I hated it.
Only because I was used to mine, but still... it was a pain.

Shifter?

I've never heard anyone call it that.

Yet it makes so much sense.

Wow, I had no idea so many people drove sticks. I've only ever driven it with the shift up by the steering wheel.

Mine is at my side...

I can drive both. A lot of trucks I've driven have the shift at the steering wheel.

The vehicle in which I first learned how to drive was behind the steering wheel. My vehicle as of today is by my leg.

I freaked out when I saw that 20% said on the column. I didn't think there were that many of them left on the road.

THEN I remembered that most of you people drive standard transmissions.

Next to my leg

The car is manual, so it's by my leg.

My mom's and sister's automatic cars both have it by the leg. My stepdad's Prius has that nifty thing on the dashboard, so it's kind of neither.

13 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 10/3/07 - 9:35:23 PM EST (GMT-5)
By my leg. I think it's harder to see what gear it's in if it's on the column.
13 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 10/3/07 - 10:57:15 PM EST (GMT-5)
I've had two cars and they have both been tiptronic, so it is down by my leg.

13 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Monday 12/31/07 - 3:45:23 AM EST (GMT-5)
Next to the leg. I can drive with it on the wheel though.

Floor shifter. I don't like column shifters much... they always seem to require a lot more force to get them to budge.

I don't have a car. But if I got to choose, I'd have it next to my leg.

Have it by my legs, mostly it's only US car's that have the gears by the stearing wheel.
