Freeing the toys, electronics and other gifts of the holiday season from their bulletproof packaging can require the strength of Superman and patience of Job. 'You have to run around the house, find scissors, cut it open, then you hurt your fingers trying to pull it apart, then there's these twisty things you have to untwist, plus the batteries,' said Cynthia Salone. 'It can take 10 minutes to open.'

The Brits have given this phenomenon a name and a definition: wrap rage. Extreme anger caused by product packaging that is difficult to open or manipulate.

Yeah some are tricky to open, but I would not call it rage.

OMG, YES!

I'm just starting to deal with it, since my daughter's first birthday and Christmas this past year.

She's extrememly impatient too, so it made it that much worse. Seeing her so happy about her new toys made it better though.

14 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 1:22:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
YES.
It pisses me off so much, it's as if they don't want you to get to the thing you bought.
14 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 5/22/07 - 1:50:01 PM EST (GMT-5)
The outer package doesn't bother me so much as getting toys apart from the packaging.
If it's a girl toy, you always need scissors. I keep a crappy pair around just to cut through all those stupid twist ties.
If it's a boy, a lot of the time, you need a screwdriver.
Personally, I'd prefer it if the display didn't have to be so perfect.

No kidding. They should have a display model on the store shelf, and then one that's not so hard to get out of the damn packaging.

Plus, I'm pretty sure all that extraneous packaging is wasteful.

Often bubble pack is impervious to knives and scissors. I have a pair of tin snips. They work great.
