I am against both. Sport is especially cruel, but at least the animal will leave unless it is severly injured.

either way its going to die, so let it die and eat it if your hungry i guess

I don't really care whether it's cruel or not either way. I just want some tasty fish.

I've heard the whole argument about catch and release and the cruelty about it, but as long as the fish doesn't swallow the hook, their mouthes heal as fast or faster then ours do.

AFAI that cruel is "catch a fish and let it die so you can eat" schtick, it's no different from any other animal. If you are the type that can and does, you will. Cruel doesn't factor in it if you are a true carnivore.

I don't fish at all.

IF you're going to eat the fish, kill it as soon as it's caught, don't just 'let it die'.

Neither. I have done both.

Aw... those pictures make me really sad. I think I'll just not go fishing.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/8/06 - 10:02:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
the first is worse because you're hurting the innocent fish just for fun...the second should be revised to catching it and killing it right away...why would you make the fish suffer??
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/8/06 - 10:17:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
i have a problem personally doing that cause i hate hurting them willingly for fun. no thank you.

^damn hippies...neither one is cruel, it's not like you're going out there to intentionally hurt fish
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 12/11/06 - 3:53:27 PM EST (GMT-5)
Throw it back injured. It probably wouldn't survive and most likely will have died in vain.

If you KNOW something is going to hurt the fish, does it matter if the hurt is intentional?

In fact, if you know something is going to hurt the fish and you do it anyway, isn't the hurt actually intentional?

Catch a fish and throw it back. I'm against fishing and hunting. I think it's cruel.

the point of fishing is not to hurt the fish so no it's not intentional, if the fish swallows the hook its an accident. I would love to see all you people survive in the wilderness...

Actually, in most cases if a fish is released after biting a hook, it wil recieve very little injury. Unless the hook gets stuck in its jaw, you can release the fish and the fish can swim away with very low chances of dieing due to the hook. However, if a catch a fish I just kill i and cook it inot a filet beacuse I love seafood.

Also most fish have no feeling on the inside of the mouth, so they actually do not feel much pain when they bite the hook.

If I were in the wilderness, I would catch, kill, and eat the fish.

However, I would probably die - I don't have the basic survival skills to survive an extended period of time in the wilderness.

Very likely, you would die as well.

15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 12/13/06 - 4:32:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
Why is eating animals considered "wrong"?
15 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Saturday 1/27/07 - 5:50:06 AM EST (GMT-5)
hey comeone at least the hook will heal, right?
15 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Saturday 1/27/07 - 7:18:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't consider either cruel, nor do I think it is any contest about which is "more cruel," or rather, "closer to something that could be considered cruel by hippies": death.

i agree, it is much cruler to just catch and relese and very crule to let it "drown" to death in the open air
