I can think of a few who I would celebrate.

I don't want a funeral, I want to be cremated. With the money that would go towards a *proper* burial, I will request a party in my honor. So yes, a celebration is appropriate.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 8/15/06 - 1:49:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, if they would have wanted it to be a celebration.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 8/15/06 - 10:49:26 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, unless it was the death of someone who was just trying to kill you and you killed that person instead.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Tuesday 8/15/06 - 10:51:37 PM EST (GMT-5)
There's one that might cause me to throw a small party.

It's a celebration of their life. Anyone who has passed in our family wanted a Wake, because they know it will be a good party.

There is a joke about the Irish..What's the difference between an Irish wedding and an Irish funeral? At the funeral there is one less person.

Yes it's wrong.

Unless that person before they died said that they don't want you to mourn and celebrate instead. When my opa(grandpa) died he didn't want anyone to cry. When we went to his funeral we remembered all the good moments and we laughed a lot. My grandpa was an actor and he was really really funny!!!

Celebrate the person's life after they die.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/16/06 - 6:27:09 AM EST (GMT-5)
It depends on the circumstances. If a person died of old age and had a long and happy life, etc, then I think it's right for their life to be celebrated. But there are circumstances where I don't think it's right, for example, suicide.

15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/16/06 - 8:24:12 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, I think so. I have been very conflicted with news of each prominant Iraqi enemy's death.

Bang on there. I hate people dressing in black at funerals. I want people to be happy for my life, not sad about my death.

I once had two very confused friends call to my place after a funeral. They guy's boses father died & he & his wife went to the church to pay their respects. The guy was a bit upset because he's just been to a funeral where people were laughing & joking & he wanted to know what was going on. He's from Germany & his wife is Jamacian. They're used to a funeral being either quiet & solem or lots of crying.
Unless it's a tragic death, funerals are a time to talk about the good times with a person.

15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Thursday 8/17/06 - 11:30:41 AM EST (GMT-5)
At the time of my death, I want my family and friends to celebrate my life rather than to mourn my death, so in a way, they will be celebrating my death.

My father in law didn't want a funeral mass, but they ended up getting a reverend at the crematorium (sp?). The rev said a few words then played one of Jock's fav songs "Simply the Best" Tina Turner. Everyone started laughing, we all remembered his Tina Turner Live video that he played for everyone one whist commenting on her "fine" legs.

A friend of mine, her aunty already had her funreal because she didn't want to miss the big party she was paying for

My dad wants a wake. And as cruel as it sounds my great grannys wake was the best party i have ever been to. We had a great aul session for that. Singing and dancing, everyone was locked!

15 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 8/31/06 - 3:34:50 PM EST (GMT-5)
^^ I hope MY wake is that awesome.
15 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 8/31/06 - 3:41:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
I was going to say "No, I've done that before." But then I remembered, we were celebrating his life instead of mourning his death.
15 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 8/31/06 - 5:27:51 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'm part Irish, so we sort of celebrate at wakes... It's really a celebration of their life and what they accomplished.
15 yrs ago, 7 mos ago - Saturday 9/30/06 - 7:38:43 PM EST (GMT-5)
You're not really celebrating their death you're celebrating the life they lived.
