Teen fashions often leave parents a little disgruntled. Arlington Independent School District parent Frances Henson said, “I'm thinking that our daughters are growing up a little bit too fast these days.”

Arlington School Board members agree with parents and this summer, they adopted an unusual amendment to the student dress code. The new dress code reads, in part, “The display of cleavage is unacceptable. Low cut blouses, tops, sweaters, etc. with plunging necklines are not allowed.'

“It's gotten bad enough that, unfortunately, our young males are looking at more than their English book, their speech book, their science book,” says school board president Sherri Wade. “And it's kind of nice to have something left to the imagination.”

15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/9/06 - 12:31:32 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes. Some people (like me) wear shirts that aren't low-cut and still show a lot of cleavage b/c I'm large-busted.

I don't see what's wrong with it being exposed.

As long as their nipples are covered (people would complain, otherwise), it should be fine.

^You know, that's pretty rare too. I mean, you see people's asscracks and their underwear but you don't see very much nipple.

Most people's shirts aren't low-cut enough to expose nipples, so no one sees them.

At my old high school, though, I saw a lot of girls with super-thin shirts that let their nipples protrude through the cloth like erasers, though.
(I suspect some of them did it on purpose.)

Yeah, that's just common sense though.

In this case, they SHOULD be told.

Not distracting? What planet are you from?

15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/9/06 - 3:34:03 AM EST (GMT-5)
Yes, please.

For sure. Helps make daydreaming more fun.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/9/06 - 3:37:51 AM EST (GMT-5)
i'd go with a 'yes'.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/9/06 - 8:28:15 AM EST (GMT-5)
They can wear what they want. If the males want to be dirty, they'll just imagine it anyway.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/9/06 - 8:55:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, it's not something I care to see.

I don't think that's reason enough to ban something, though.

I don't care to see fat people wearing pastels, but I'd never support a move to ban it.

There has to be some boundaries to how teenagers dress in school. As a whole, they prove every-f*ckin-time the leash is loosed that they're not capable of exercising good judgment about such things.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/9/06 - 11:38:11 AM EST (GMT-5)
yes. people should be allowed to wear whatever they want its our bodies.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 8/9/06 - 11:47:38 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think cleavage shirts should be allowed in school. You're there to learn, not to show everyone your goods.

Keep the promiscuous trollopty clothes for drunken highschool parties.

15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Thursday 8/10/06 - 12:26:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
i have no problem with it.
15 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Thursday 8/10/06 - 1:26:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Sure, it doesn't offend me and males will get distracted by other things anyway.

Yes, it doesn't bother me.

That shouldn't be allowed though.

I don't see what the big deal is. As long as there are no nipples showing.
