(CBS/AP) Princess Diana's brother said Thursday he was 'sickened' that the CBS had broadcast photos of the princess as she lay dying after a car accident — the first time a major media outlet has published pictures of the injured princess. The British press expressed front-page outrage, while Prime Minister Tony Blair called the broadcast of the grainy black-and-white images 'distasteful.'

First, it's interesting that more people responded to having "google" on their cell phone than to this question!

Secondly -legally, there probably isn't anything to stop them from publishing the photos. As for ethically, there is no point. Especially so long after her death. Why? What kind of "news" is it years later to show pictures that only serve to remind her family of the tragedy. So, legally they probably do have the right. Ethically and/or morally, it's a bad call.

Freedom of the press and all that. It was probably legal. Not ethical though, as humanity trumps celebrity.

Of course legally they can print them and I'm not surprised they did but I think that it's awful that they printed them. It helped nobody to drag all this up except to line their pockets. It's gruesome. The crash was about 9 years ago now. Can't they just let her rest and leave her family in peace?

It's in bad taste, but freedom of the press and all that.

It is unethical, and tacky, but then again, so is the media. People are going to bring up and air video/pictures about her death every few years from here to eternity because of who she was.

He might as well give it up. The more he protests, the more publicity it gets and more people will be scrambling to see what they may have missed.

As if the media cares about ethics.

Ethically, no. Legally, yes.

As if any of the media operates ethically. It's legal, it makes money. That's all the criteria it needs.

Freedom of the press gives them the right.

I feel I must comment that life is more and more public now.... if you want privacy you need to hide yourself and check the room for bugs... especially if you are a celebrity... feel free to film my death anytime... it is a new world.

CBS stands for Callous Barbaric Sickening!

Ethical and legal are two different things here. I think they had the legal right, but it wasn't exactly ethical to make money off her death. Quite repugnant, actually.

I think it's distasteful, but as far as the legality goes, I think they have the right. You can't really fight it.
