Whats the BNP?
British National Police?
British National Parliament?
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 5/9/06 - 3:49:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
British National Party.

No, it was only a local election. There aren't enough idiots for them to make any impact on the general elections.

Nah, I don't think they're going to get that many votes, unless we start some serious inbreeding.
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 5/9/06 - 5:20:49 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, but it does concern me slightly that they're becoming more popular - their ideals suggest that I shouldn't be living in Britain, even though I was born here and grew up here, because of my heritage, so I'd be pretty unimpressed if they became a major contender in the national elections!

You have my sincerest condolences. I hope this is not the way the world is going. The way things are, I'm going to be deported to some colony that 'heals' homosexuality.

There is a programme coming up on the History channel, the tag line suggests that we shouls learn from the mistakes of history. It says that in 1933 the Nazi party only had about 2% of the vote, who would have believed at the time that their leader would become chancellor within such a short period.

I'm afraid that fascism is increasing all over the world

Shockingly I've heard that many of their votes were protest votes.

Aside from the general idea of protest votes being one I diagree with, and I've debated that point before, if you do protest vote BNP, then you're also going to give other, dimmer individuals the idea to do the same thing, which just shows up as increased support for the BNP.

Suppose your vote convinces a thick left wing voter in an area where the BNP have support to protest vote?

And the idea fails anyway, because the media doesn't go "Aaah! people are voting BNP! How terrible!", which is the idea of the protest vote. Instead, they just go "Oh, lots of people are protest voting."

This then obscures how much real support the BNP has, and makes the protest vote pointless anyway.

All i've heard since the election is "aah people are voting BNP how terrible'.

Apparently most people who voted BNP don't believe in the parties policies anyway, so this doesn't seem like it's quite the huge problem that it's made out to be.

39 council seats out 0f 4000 or something.

However that doesn't mean that it should be ignored, right wing parties are growing in Europe.

In this country the parties have lost thier idealogies they have all bunched together in the center, one of the ways that the BNP and other extreme parties can gain votes is by appealing to certain groups, for example

15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 5/10/06 - 8:00:35 AM EST (GMT-5)
targetting the working classes in poor areas, hyping up the threat that immigrants have to their jobs, offering higher wages etc, for older people by offering much higher pensions and things like that.

Much of it is to take away your attention from the obvious fact that they are a racist party with racist policies.

This has been done in Denmark where the third largest party is now the far right equivelent of our BNP.

It's not a huge problem yet but it is something we have to watch out for.

For those of you who don't know the party. From Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Nat...

The party's other policies include:

The ending of immigration to the UK
"A massively-funded and permanent programme, using and doubling Britain's current foreign aid budget, will aim to reduce, by voluntary resettlement to their lands of ethnic origin, the proportion of ethnic minorities living in Britain"
The removal of all illegal immigrants
The repeal of all equality and anti-discrimination legislation, including measures aimed at employing people with disabilities.
Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union and the pursuit of protectionist economic measures.

15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 5/10/06 - 10:13:06 AM EST (GMT-5)

Encouraging greater share ownership and worker co-operatives.
Restricting foreign aid to the support of countries receiving "repatriated" members of ethnic minorities. Griffin argued against giving unconditional foreign aid, including disaster aid, claiming 'charity' is not an acceptable use of public funds.
The introduction of corporal punishment for petty criminals and vandals, and the introduction of capital punishment for paedophiles, terrorists and murderers.
The reintroduction of national service and the withdrawal of some civil rights from conscientious objectors, including the right to vote.
The requirement of all law-abiding adults completing national service to maintain a standard issue automatic rifle in their home.
A mandatory jail term for anyone assaulting an NHS worker.
The reunification of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland in a 'federation of the nations of the British Isles'

Damn, A lot of thier Ideas seem pretty close to the french Front national (FN) of Jean-Marie Le Pen, correct me if I am wrong. Makes me remeber in 2002, when Le Pen got to the 2nd turn of the presidential elections...
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 5/10/06 - 10:30:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
Well it isn't really that suprising is it? They are both right wing parties after all.

15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 5/26/06 - 4:02:17 AM EST (GMT-5)
V for Vendetta! Guy Fawkes, where are you now that we need you???
15 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Friday 5/26/06 - 4:05:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
It's understandable why their popularity is growing. With the new countries being accepted into the EU, thousands of people from eastern Europe are flocking to Britain. I hard that Romania has over a million people waiting to come here.

The BNP are quite funny when you think about it. They deny one of the basic tenets of left-wing philosophy, that we have a global proletariat and people of all races are fundamentally the same. And then they pursue left wing policies such as higher minimum wage, better pensions, etc.
