Hehehe, a savant is someone who is great at something, an idiot is someone who is... well, either somehow mentally retarded or otherwise very stupid.

An idiot savant is someone who has a special gift for some endeavour despite his impairment. (or in some cases, because of it. Certain types of brain anomalies cause people to think of numbers in a different way and be able to calculate far faster than the rest of us).

Since I'm not an idiot, I'm not an idiot savant at anything either.

Not the best use of the term. "Idiot savant" is usually used in reference to somebody with autism/mental retardation who has one or numerous extraordinary mental abilities.
Why not just say exceptionally gifted? I doubt many of the users here are autistic or mentally impaired.

I'm learned and scholarly in certain fields and I'm an idiot about some things, but neither to the degree that true idiot savants are.

Yep, Im a geography whiz and am spectular when it comes to memorizing maps.

But really I cant say that I am because only people who are mentally handicapped can be considered savants. The most common savants are either Autistic or have Down Syndrome, and some of those folks are amazing when it comes to their talents, which are usually mathimatical, mucical or artistic.

I'm not going to be picky about the *true definition* of idiot savant because I'm sure you know what that is.

Yes, I have a phenomenal capacity for memorization. On the other hand, my personal memory is crap. Whole *years* are just erased from my memory, and I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday.
