although i respect the scientology way of life, i can not see how a silent birth can get the baby off to a 'better start'. the two just dont equate to me at all. the reasoning makes no sense.

No. I sure as hell don't remember my birth. It'd be pointless.

Even if I wanted to be silent during my childrens births, I couldn't have, it would have been like trying to hold back the tide.

k... a baby can hear very well in the whomb... what do you suppose their baby heard whenever they went ANYWHERE and had press and fans yelling and screaming and taking pictures. if this theory they go by is supposed to make any sense then poor miss katie there should not have been in public at all during pregnancy...

Actually, I think going out of your way to hide your pain and emotions are a bad "first example" to set for your child.

Not to mention that this is more likely to screw the mother up more, which would cause *far* more problems for a baby. But let's be honest, this is scientology we're talking about. They're scared the souls of dead aliens are trying to grab hold of you. That's not exactly a good reason to keep silent.

Heh, it's no more weird or cultish than the vast majority of religions out there.

No, because there is no SCIENTIFIC evidence backing that up. Unlike most bullsh*t religions, Scientology actually makes psuedoscientific claims that can be easily disproven, and have been.

Scientology being evil aside, I think the tension level of the mother, while having to keep silent, can be much more damaging to the baby than screaming and letting lose of some of the tension, fear and pain.

f*uck no!!! Childbirth is painful, and keeping silent is just a lie. You get pregnant and start to give birth and tell ME that you DON'T FEEL LIKE SCREAMING YOUR HEAD OFF. Like I saed, it's a lie to the baby, and that is a bad first thing to show your child.

heck no! if it's bad for the baby, then why is it natural to scream? a woman's body seems to know what's best for the baby in every other case...i think i'll trust it's instincts regarding noise levels...

Scientology is a cult and a very dangerous one. They should take TC baby and give it too someone else to care for. Its not the right place to bring up a kid.

A quiet birth is the only comfort the poor child can expect being born to parents following a dangerous cult like that.

If I'm in pain then sure as hell I'm gonna scream.. closest thing to silent birth i'd have would involve me being knocked out or unconscience

The way Scientology describes it no. "You must not, will not for the child." Please. Personally, I found it easier with natural childbirth not to vocalize, just to physically and mentally relax (if that is what you would call it).

That has nothing whatsoever to do with this thread, but the comments on that page are priceless.

You never hear of a Scientologist giving birth quickly or in an emergency situation. No Scientolgist is caught on the hop by an express baby and given birth in a car on the side of the road. I've never heard of a Scientologist encountering delivery complications and needing an emergency ceasarian. Many thousands of babies have been both ways and most of them grown into normal people. It's not the birth which effects your life, it's the parents.
