I haven't had a death affect me since my grandmother died when I was in high school. If someone close to me were to die right now, I might be more likely to get upset over deaths in other countries. But probably not.

Yeah. Just not in the US. Sorry, but there was this one snotty middle aged guy in a Hawaiin print shirt at the Antarctic Centre over here who ruined it for ya. Dumb man with his funny accent...

I think you HAVE to become desensitised to death in other places. People die in large numbers practically every day somewhere overseas. If you weren't desensitised in the modern, media driven world, I don't think you could cope. Same as deaths in large numbers. You don't view 5000 deaths as 5000 individuals or you'd spend your whole life depressed.

I'm desensitized to deaths anywhere but my local community-the furthest out I really care bout is my county. People need to die, I need to die. I will eventually. I'm a supporter of death, as long as it isn't going to effect everyones daily life, or isn't so wide everyone aunt suddenly disapears. Don't get me wrong, I feel sorry for the family of the dead people, or the country if it was a popular political leader, but still... I don't know them, what does it really matter to me.

I don't really care much when I heard stuff like that. I've very open minded, ever since I was a small child I was aware of these things happening in the world.. So it's just become everyday life to me. Besides, people need to die. The population is too large of a number, in my opinion.

It really doesn't affect me at all. I'm very sensitive when I hear that an American dies somewhere, and it's a lot worse when I see them die in a video or something.

Not really. When I think that everyone who dies is someone's son, daughter, husband, wife, mother, or father, it really hurts me.

Obviously somewhat But it's still hardhitting, no matter where it is if a smaller event with less people killed happens in england, or near by, or some country I visit a lot/have lots of friends, it obviously effects me more then somewhere I don't know.

Millions of people are dying everyday.. while i'm typing this meaningless comment people are dying.. We just don't hear about it or have to see it in our cosy cossetted little worlds. But then if you were to concern yourself with it then you would become impotent with grief and overwhelmed by the magnitude of it. So when I hear of people dying ANYWHERE i tend to be pretty removed from it.

If I get bent out of shape for every death I see on the news, how am I going to be able to deal with death in real life? I'm very desensitized from work. Coping mechanisms and all - self preservation.

It doesn't affect me of course, but I don't think I'm entirely desensitized. When I hear about those things, I feel worse. I don't want most people to suffer.

Sometimes. You hear about all the time, and unfortunately, most of us don't care.

To some degree. But I do have empathy for the deceased families, having had some very dear people in my life die.

If I don't know them why should I care. That's what growing up during N Ireland's 'troubles' will do to you
