I think it is more sad when an animal gets killed, unless the person getting killed is a kid, then thats sadder I think.

*****Secret Window spoilers ahead***** When I saw Secret Window I was more disturbed by the dead dog than by the dead bodies.

I'm desensitized to people deaths in a movie. Animal deaths in a movie, not so much. I must stress the "in a movie" part of both my answer and the question itself because there is another question floating around about the real life suffering of children vs. animals, and I feel very differently about it in real life.

Good point, UncleLaughie. In movies, it's very common to see people get killed. But I got a bit steamy-eyed at the end of Old-Yeller myself... I've seen animals getting run over and saw an old lady get run over. The old lady freaked me out, while I forgot about the animals almost as soon as I left the scene.

We were watching parts of Pearl Harbor in my American History class and nobody really said anything when all the ships were being blown up or anything...but when it looked like that one dog on the ship was gonna die EVERYONE flipped out and got all upset.

i like animals better than people, so i'd be more upset if an animal died in a movie.

Depends on how the animal or person died. I cried in Crouching tiger hidden dragon when lee mu bai died. I mean it was sad. and I cry when animals are killed also.

I'll say people, since I can grow to like certain characters in movies and be disappointed or horrified that they get killed off. I don't care about animals at all.

I can watch a movie where all these people are getting killed, for whatever reason, but let one animal die and I go to pieces.

Sometimes its worse if the animal dies, bc they are all cute and furry, but the same goes with a person. Sometimes you really get into a charachter adn to watch them die is horrible. Like in Crouching tiger hidden dragon, i cried and cried about him dying.

At least half the time when someone dies in a movie they're evil anyhow. The dogs are rarely evil in movies, just innocent pets.

It depends on if I like the character, but usually animals because they're so helpless.

In 'Butterfly Effect' when the bully ties up a sack with the dog in it and sets it on fire....actually that would be just as nasty a scene with a human inside I suppose.

a dog, only because we're so used to seeing people getting killed, or dying.

Now the dog is usually the one to get into a sticky situation and survive whilst sometimes saving the human's ass. Therefore I say, SAVE THE DOGGIES!
