Cars really aren't necessary at all.

They are necessary until we build an infrastructure adequate to transport gazillions of people to their jobs each day and keep the economy running. Or do you mean that we could drive motorcycles/scooters/etc? I'd feel unsafe on one of those. When I lived in a big city, I walked/biked/took public transportation. But getting to my relatives 50 miles away would've been difficult-you know, having to run across expressways and such.

"today's day and age"? That phrase sounds redundant and annoying to me, for some reason. I really don't see why someone would want to own a gigantic car (or any other huge vehicle, for that matter. I dislike them.). I own a car, and it's a little Asian-made thing that gets good mileage.

No, but my dad has a big luxury sedan...Infiniti Q45 and he's usually the only one who rides in it. It's ridiculous for him to need that type of car to drive 25 min to work every day and back.

i don't think larger cars are necessary, just more convient. my mom has a camry and its really hard to take my baby and his car seat in and out of the back seat, so we always take myconcord where ever we go because it has so much room. its just nice to have a little more than needed.

I doubt it. I would use the excuse of having a large family, but even then the cars still only hold about 5 people. An SUV or minivan is more suited for a family of more than 4.

yeah if you wanna waiste the worlds natural resuorces on fueling needlessly big cars, particularly if your a woman that has no perception of the size of her boyfriends car that she regularly drives down small narrow country lanes. or even if you live in america and have to drive miles across state coz you live in such a big area that the local supermarket is miles away so you get a massive engined big oversized car which is so non- ergonomic that it consumes more fuel than the recent hemel hempstead oil refinery explosion and take it on every day journeys like your 35 mile drive to your local convienince store, then yes.

Not for me, or for most people. In other countries, large cars are a rarity, and a much wider variety of small 4 cylinder economy cars are available. I'm a big guy and I often carry passengers and luggage, and my Honda Civic suits me perfectly.

We have a Volvo V70 and we would not get the family and two prams into a smaller car. We would have bought a newer V70 if could afford it. It is a rather thirsty automobile.

No, they are not. I'd like to see more small cars here like the ones you seen in Europe. In this day and age of $2+ gas, big is bad.
