Definitely on who is grossly overweight. First, it's easier to help them to get to lose weight than it is to tell a smoker to stop smoking. And second, being around a smoker all the time is really dangerous. Being affected by secondhand smoke is more dangerous than smoking yourself.

I agree completely with porpise. I can't handle smoke. Gives me a headache.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 6/7/05 - 10:51:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
The smoker. Let's face it. They're both slowly killing themselves, but at least the smoker might be sexually attractive.

^^^ well said. Its also becoming common knowledge that the habit of overeating is almost harder to kick than smoking.

Which would I prefer? Seeing my husband die of a heart attack or lung cancer?
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 6/7/05 - 11:03:16 PM EST (GMT-5)
The person who's overweight. You could, as porpoise has already said, help them lose weight sooner than you could help a smoker stop smoking. On top of all that, the smoker isn't just hurting him/herself ... they're also hurting you via secondhand smoke.

i can't stand smoking so im going to say overweight.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 6/8/05 - 10:34:31 PM EST (GMT-5)
Overweight-- I have asthma, so a smoker just doesn't fit into the picture.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Wednesday 6/8/05 - 10:35:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
A smoker.

HA! This question implies that you have a choice. I suppose that you DO, to some extent. But can you really choose who you love? What about what your lover/spouse will become? If my wife turned into a FIVE-pack-a-day smoker if, say, her mum died, or else turned into a problem eater and blew up like a balloon - I gotta tell y'all, if she suddenly turned out to be a LEPER, I would love her as much as I do now, and I know that for a fact. Which is worse? I don't think there's an answer to that. You can't change a person. If he/she smokes or is obese or drinks too much or whatever, this is what you have to deal with. Love him/her, or not. THAT is your only choice, and I don't even know if THAT is a choice. Really, if it IS; if you can make a decision like that, then you are the kind of person who is doomed for divorce. Because if love has conditions on it, then it's not love.

Exactly. Not like you get a choice though.

Overweight for sure. I can not tolerate smoking.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 8/24/05 - 6:15:47 AM EST (GMT-5)
Smoker. I can't date someone overweight. There is no attraction at all. At least if I wanted to get him to quit smoking I could use my power.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 8/24/05 - 6:17:51 AM EST (GMT-5)
Smoker, because I can tolerate it when it's coming from a hot, skinny person.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 8/24/05 - 6:33:02 AM EST (GMT-5)
Either one, I can get a divorce!
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Wednesday 8/24/05 - 6:34:49 AM EST (GMT-5)
One would be destroying me mentally, the other physically. Tough choice.

Maybe you're doing it the wrong way around?

Yea, I honestly have no idea how to respond to that...

...nice. Which idiot invented that crackpot theory? How can smoke filtered by the cigarette filter AND the smoker's lungs be worse than the smoke straight from the cigarette? I would think two filters are cleaner than one. Honestly. But as I can't stand cigarette smoke, I don't care how dangerous it is. Thus, the overweight person.

Weight and smoking would be the least of my concerns as far as considering someone marriage material...

Same here. Although, oddly, I really like the smell.

Heart attack. If you have to watch someone die, make it quick for both of your sakes.
