I dont think childrens balloons are filled with potentially dangerous hydrogen
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 6/4/05 - 12:05:37 AM EST (GMT-5)
Why would it.
Besides, balloons use helium, not Hydrogen.

16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 6/4/05 - 4:56:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
Funny question. The Hinderburg must had the same impact than the day I watch Challenger explode live.
I was doing some volunteer workin Edmonton; I'll never forget it.

At the time, the Hindenburg disaster probably DID affect the popularity of balloons at children's parties.

But that was a long time ago. I don't think there are any lingering effects now.

agrees with wanderer
16 yrs ago, 4 mos ago - Saturday 6/4/05 - 9:55:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
At the time maybe. Today, I doubt it. Besides balloons are filled with helium or just air, not hydrogen.

The Hindenburg disaster was in 1937.

Balloons for children's parties, as we know them now, were invented around 1931 and not in huge abundance. The inventor, Mr. Tillotson had no factory and produced them by dipping cardboard shapes into buckets of latex, then allowed them to dry before inflating. Therefore I'd say that not many children even played with balloons in 1937 and therefore this question is a mute point.

I have to admit to a nasty habit of shooting down dumb questions. Seriously, what was the purpose behind this question being approved?

I don't even really see why it would have affected their popularity then...

When someone's organising a party, are balloons really the first and most important thing they think of anyway?
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Sunday 6/26/05 - 4:23:30 PM EST (GMT-5)
Awwww, I want a flaming Goodyear blimp at my next birthday...
16 yrs ago, 3 mos ago - Wednesday 6/29/05 - 10:25:57 PM EST (GMT-5)
The fact that party palloons are extremely popular should answer this. And in the 1930's, I doubt many kids had balloons at their birthdays anyway.
