Yes, I really think it's getting there. Red states vs blue states. Christians vs non believers. Homophobics vs gays. I think it's getting quit messy.

When you have people who truly believe that their opinion is the only opinion that could possibly be corect. And you give them complete power. What do you expect?

At least after The War of Northern Aggression in America, it ended up with a good thing happening, the slaves were freed. What exactly would be accomplished if we had another one? Nothing, unless one group completely massacred the other, like in Rwanda, but that's not a good thing. A country needs differences in opinion.

'more divided now than it's ever been?' No. It used to be at war with itself. You can't get anymore divided than that.

I think it's always been divided about something. There have always been political issues and religious beliefs to makes sure that Americans don't get along with each other.

I'd say no, considering the civil war, but I wouldn't say that we were united. During and after the Depression, there was a sense of comradere among the people of america. Hitchhiking, On The Road, and in the 60's we had hippies. But now, with blatant consumerism encouraged all we have is selfishness and individualism emphasized. So I do feel that there is a lack of connection among the people of america.

Frankly, there has never been a time in anyone's history where everyone has agreed on anything. There has always been a separation to some extent, but in it's own way, the fact that we can express our opinions and speak out for or against the government (or anything else) is what really makes our government great -- regardless of who happens to be president.

We are more divided now more than ever. Some may say we were the most divided during the Civil War, but back then, there were essentially two sides to the issue. Either you sided with the Confederates or the Union. Now, there are so many issues and so many variations and points of view of those issues that divide us. Issues like abortion, homosexuality, stem cell research and affirmative action were not hot topics back then. Individuality is at its highest point in American history. Though there is not nearly the amount of violence now between us than there was during the Civil War, we are indeed divided. The people are divided amongst themselves instead of by regions or states.

I think the U.S. is more fractioned now than ever. Nobody can agree with anyone else on anything these days. During the Civil War, there were three opinions to choose amongst: 'North win!', 'South win!', and those who didn't care. Everyone fit into one of those three groups. Now, there are so many different things to agree or disagree about that there is absolutely no unity whatsoever.

The civil war comes to mind. Most people say that this is no different but the media wants to make our differences a big deal. Because America is made of a multi-party system, America is gonna disagree in different ways. It's always been that way, and always will be.

Has anyone ever thought of the Civil War? We're not exactly going against our families & friends to the point of blowing their heads off.
