not at all. you can't smoke on a plane anyway, and lighters are cheap and easy to pack into your luggage. they aren't necessary or helpful to air passengers.

^ Did you miss the "Lighters haven't been permitted in checked bags for at least 30 years because they might start fires in cargo holds." part?

Yeah pixie, cass is right - you can't take a lighter on the plane AT ALL, either with you or in checked luggage. You can however, take four books of matches. Which doesn't make sense to me ... they started this because of that shoe bomber guy (Richard Reid?) ... but that guy was using matches!! I think Bic was secretly behind this new law. Now they'll make a fortune in airport gift shops selling lighters to everyone as they come off the plane

they should give the TSA agents boxes of matches to trade with smokers for their lighters. its only fair...we need that cigarette the minute we step off the plane.

Most airline restrictions introduced after 9/11 show just how little brain most people really have. It's a ridiculous idea.

Turn a torch up, BUM,you got a flaming knife! O2 masks come down from the top, put a light to up, a little spark, BAM, the plane becomes a bomb. LIghters are a dollor for a 6 pack at walmart, you can afford to buy a few when you get to where you are going.

No it wasnt wrong for them to ban lighters; but it makes me laugh that they sell them at the gift shops that are past the security check points. It's like way to go on enforcing the rules.

All these laws after 9/11... it's a bit like shutting the barn door after the cows got out...

I think it's wrong that they are taking away our rights in order to ensure that terrorists dont kill us....but just to let you know, lighters dont set off metal detectors, by which, you could carry one in your pocket... but they would think that a terrorist would possibly try to SNEAK one in, oh no, they would never do that... Its all f*cking stupid, if someone want to kill people, they will find a way...

Okay, as long as matches are okay...oh wait, don't they fulfill the exact same function as a lighter?

Matches don't combust when put under the pressure, like that in an airplane, or when excessive force is placed on them, like when bags are stacked on top of eachother in the cargo hold.

Why does anyone need a lighter on a plane to begin with?

No, smoking was banned from planes a long time ago, and otherwise, you don't really *need* a lighter on a plane anyway.

I actually just heard starting soon we can have lighters again. They sure have their heads up their asses - what did they think a lighter could do that matches couldn't anyway?
