SAN ANTONIO, United States (AFP) - A new company called Live-Shot.com has added a modern, controversial twist to the primal desire to kill: Internet hunting. Now anyone with a computer and a modem can log on and fire real weapons. Though Texans wear their love of guns and hunting proudly, the idea of Internet hunting has generated plenty of criticism. A bill has been introduced to ban the practice.

Wildlife authorities have already taken steps to ban the killing of any native species by remote control, but they cannot ban the Internet slaughter of imported exotic game. Several other states are already moving to head off Internet hunting in the event that Internet entrepreneurs try to introduce their own remote control slaughters. And the Humane Society of the United States is calling on Congress to make it illegal across the country...

Should internet hunting be banned?

OK, I am not understanding how this works??
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Sunday 4/3/05 - 6:28:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah I had to read a lot about it to understand it - at first I thought it was like a video game, like it showed video of realistic looking animals you could 'shoot' from your house. So I thought it was a good thing!

But what it really is, is some kind of remote link to 'sniper' towers all over the world - when people 'shoot' on the screen, the trigger on an actual gun deploys and an animal is actually killed. Some of the animals are exotic and endangered, because they can't enforce poaching laws over the internet. It's absolutely insane, hopefully they ban it soon!

Crackdown On Web Site 'Hunters'

17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 10:09:13 AM EST (GMT-5)
I think it's one of the sickest things I've ever heard of. If I were God, I'd sniper out all these f*cktards from my tower in heaven.
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 10:11:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
The only reason for anyone to hunt is for food and if someone can afford a computer they can afford to pay for food at the store.
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 10:42:15 AM EST (GMT-5)
Is it like duck hunt?
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 10:52:51 AM EST (GMT-5)
Wait 'til it graduates to a clock tower with people instead of animals...
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 10:55:04 AM EST (GMT-5)
I'm no hunter, but see no need to ban the sport--killing one's own food isn't much different than paying for slaughterhouse food.

As far as remote control hunting, I don't understand how the food actually gets to the 'hunter'. I'm not a big supporter of killing for the sake of killing...

17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 10:56:31 AM EST (GMT-5)
Thats crazy if your not there when you kill it, whats the point? just to kill for poos and giggles?

At least hunters do something (like put the head on the wall - oh so constructive to do with a living creature).....

17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 11:01:54 AM EST (GMT-5)
While they may put the head on the wall, hunters typically eat the rest (or at least the edible parts) of the animal...
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 11:43:00 AM EST (GMT-5)
I know, but at least they do something, I failing to see what happens in this situation.
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 12:09:46 PM EST (GMT-5)
I think you've missed the point. They use remote controls to fire bullets into real animals. That's not the same as a video game. They actually kill real animals.
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 12:19:36 PM EST (GMT-5)
I don't think you should kill anything anyway.
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 12:20:18 PM EST (GMT-5)
rklesla is a deleter!!
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 12:21:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
Of course. My post was wrong, though it was about hunting games. I don't keep dumb posts like some people.
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 12:22:54 PM EST (GMT-5)
I had never heard of this. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me, but then again, I don't really condone hunting as a "sport", either.
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 12:44:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
See, you know if us Texans don't approve of it then it's definitely the worst it can be...
17 yrs ago - Friday 5/6/05 - 1:18:42 PM EST (GMT-5)
It said the meat can be sent to whoever.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Sunday 5/22/05 - 8:17:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes. It's really cruel.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Monday 5/23/05 - 5:31:33 AM EST (GMT-5)
Awesome

Yeah ban it... filthy bastards can't stop killing things for 5 seconds can you.

16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Friday 6/3/05 - 7:46:33 PM EST (GMT-5)
not only do i think that hunting has outlived it's usefulness in this country, but that's just lazy. if you're going to kill something for fun, you should at least have to get yourself out of a computer chair and work to do it.
