I think no. Even if it's really f*cked up the world right now, oil has still pretty much made our civilization. From machinery lubrication to fuel to hair products, we have grown faster in the past few hundred years than we had for teh 10,000 years before that. What we need to do now is fix the problems oil has caused and use it in a safer and more efficient way. And maybe, eventually, we won't need it anymore at all.

Who knows what kind of world we would live in if there were cars ran on water. Cleaner for sure and maybe not as greedy.

Yes. The terrorists wouldn't have money and they wouldn't be able to get to America.

I think civilization would be vastly different if not for our dependence on oil.

if we didn't use oil there'd be no plastic, there'd be no computers, and we'd have very few tall building since tall structure require very pure metals and coal can't burn hot enough to purify lots of metal. we'd have no cars very electricy for electrolysis and the world would be a BAD place for us to live in and also BAD for the enviroment since we;d jsut depend on coal

You don't think any of those things might have been invented using other means?

how do you invent plastic when plastic is a derivitive of oil? how far do you think you'd get w/ cars that run on steam? cars that you'd haf to feed every so often? the ppl in ?ireland? i think, are building this super ultra big damn, just to power 1 aluminim factory for electrolysis to purify the aluminum ore. i don't think (99.99999999999% sure) you can make transistors as small as today w/ impure elements.

It depends what you define a good world to be. I don't know if it would be better, but I know that we would not have many of the modern convinences that we have. I personally like all the technology so I will say that the discovery of oil has made the world a better place.

No, oil is not evil. Oil is good. People are evil. I guess before they discovered oil the world was at peace, there was no hunger and animals never ate each other. If we could run our cars on water and needed only sunshine for our food, we'd still have wars, there would still be hunger, there would still be dictators. Someone would try to control the sunshine and regulate the water.

That's impossible to answer. Civilization as we know it is built on a foundation of oil. If it had never been discovered, there is simply no way to know how things might have developed.

I like to get up on the stage, soak myself in lamp oil, and set myself on fire. The crowd loves it. I couldn't do that without oil, so the world would be a sh*tty place if oil hadn't been discovered.
