Bangalore - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has accused the United States of planning to portray his country as a security threat in order to capture its vast oil reserves. Chavez - who has repeatedly accused U.S. President George W. Bush of plotting to assassinate him - said U.S. officials have called him 'a threat' and a 'destabilizing force' because they want an excuse to gain control over Venezuelan oil reserves.

Do you think Bush would ever turn to Venezuela for a source of more oil?

This guy in venezuela is a real monster.
He is imprisoning anyone who disagrees with him. It's no an offense to publish anything critical of him, or people in his government.

And he's buying altogether MORE military equipment then he has any need for, while portions of his country have no educational system, not enough economic opportunity.

Watch...he will be a problem.

Hmm..something to think about.
However, I think Bush is pretty focused on the Middle East. Does he even know there's a *south* America?

Bush is too busy with talks with the Saudi crown prince over his (and his father's) oil interests.

This is the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it?

I thinks that there's barely anything Bush wouldn't do to get what he wants. But I think that by the time we'd be that desperate, he'll be out of office

Well, even if the Iraq thing was solely for oil, it was never to walk in and "take" the oil, but to get it back on the market with a government that could sell it without using the profit on something the can't live with, and to position some companies in the country to make a profit for his friends. But never to just pump up the oil and claim it for themselves I think.

But yeah, getting the Iraq oil back on the market was probably a very big factor.

Does he have to do that with Venezuela? I mean, their oil is already on the market, and it wouldn't be THAT hard to get their friends companies in positions through something easier than warfare.

Reallly? I didn't know CITGO was Venezuelan. That is interesting. If they supply that much oil to a consumer like the US, and around 80% of Venezuelans live in poverty, I'd say something is definitely wrong with that picture.

I guess it would be possible.

I don't know much about Chavez or Venezuela, but I'd be willing to bet US oil interests are the ones pulling the oil out of the ground in Venezuela. Chavez is seen as a threat not directly to the US, but to American oil companies, and therefore the Bush administration. Chavez is probably the best president Venezuela has ever had.

btw, i think you are more outraged by Chavez' socialism than by what he does to his people.

Otherwise, you'd be outraged at plenty of other nations, where fascist dicdators do as they please.
